0w-20 motor oils and the fast lube industry

I came across this article while trying to learn more about Honda SM 0w-20. Perhaps written a few years ago by an industry consultant? 62 bucks for 25 bucks worth of Mobil One, or whatever, and a three dollar filter? On the other hand, the stealer will use a loss leader oil change to try to sell you a grand worth of "repairs" and "flushes". DIY!!!!

So true and is exactly how they can afford to sell cheaper oil changes.

+1 GM, Toyota, Honda, Subaru and Mazda are adopting the same practices that the European car manufacturers have followed for years. Besides, with the Japanese OEMs, all they are specifying is the 0W-20 grade. So there is nothing stopping the iffy-lube shops from sourcing the 0W-20 grade in bulk cheaply from any number of sources.
