Howdy folks. Here's the first UOA on my new-to-me 2006 Accord sedan. It's a rare EX with leather, 4 cylinder engine, and manual transmission.

The car had 22k miles and an unknown service history when I bought it last August. I ran an Auto-RX clean & rinse between 22k-30k. This UOA is of the QS synthetic 5W20 in use from 30k-35.5k. Mobil 1 filter was used. Used Terry Dyson's lab.

Looks fine. The fuel level is around 1.5, which is about the same as what the reports from the DI engine read. So, I'm starting to think that a fuel value in the 1.5% range and a flashpoint in the high 200s may be normal for any Dyson sample.

Viscosity Index is off. Looks fine otherwise. I think my oil consumption comes from fuel dilution, as seen in many 2.4L UOA's.

TBN could go another 3-5000 miles, but VI seems unusually high and viscosity seems low, even for a 5W-30. Fuel dilution could be the cause of that. How much idling and highway time do you get? Did the oil smell like gasoline when you drained it? How is the PCV valve? Any starting issues? Does the intake smell like gas? How's the gas mileage?

It's a 5W-20, not 30.

My wife does most of the driving, doing suburban errand running, so a fair amount of short trips, stops and starts, etc. It does get somewhat regular 1-3 hour trips though.

No gas smell during the drain. Not sure about the PCV valve. No funny smells at the intake or under the hood. Haven't tracked mileage in a while, but did record multiple tanks in the 30-35 mpg range earlier in the year.

It did spend the first 700 miles of the OCI with a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

Ya, what's with the viscosity index and V40C? Are those numbers accurate?

When I got the car the OLM said 100% and there was a fresh sticker on the windshield with a Castrol logo, the "conventional" or whatever box checked, and "change at 15%" written. So maybe Castrol dino for the clean phase?

Rinse phase was Pennzoil 5W20 conventional.

Thanks!

I was going to guess that Castrol or Valvoline was in there somewhere along the line-that would help explain the sodium level in this otherwise excellent report.

Nice TBN after 5.5K! I'm running the same (QSHP/UD) in an 07 3.0L currently at 15% on OLM with ~7k. It will be 1 year in a couple weeks and will change it out.

IIRC, MC5k (Honda oil) uses Na as an additive also.

Thanks for posting.

I agree.

I'd rather say that getting a fuel number into the <.5 number Terry likes is extremely difficult. Somewhere between .5-1% seems to be possible on many engines. Not so much with some of the Asian designs or those of the DI persuasion.
