I have a 05 Nissan Frontier with the 4.0 V6. The owners manual recomends 5W30 and oil change intervals of 3750. This is my first Nissan V6. I have read that Nissan engines like 30wt on the heavy side. What would be a good oil for this engine and how soon would be too soon to go to extended drains? I used M1 0W20 in my last truck (2002 F150) .

I would edit my post if I knew how. I forgot to mention I live in S. Georgia. The temp almost goes below 0 deg. The highs, however, do exceed 95 deg. I didn't know if this info would help for your recomendations.

While your truck is under warranty, I would be hesitant to go to extended drains that are longer than the 'normal' service oil change interval. If that means 3750 miles, it would be a waste of money to use a synthetic for that short an interval. Some of the better choices in a conventional 5w30 would be Castrol GTX, Motorcraft, Pennzoil and Havoline.

I also have a 2005 Nissan Frontier with the 4.0 V6. I just reached the 5000 mile mark and decided to switch to GC. So far, so good. I have also read that Nissan engines like 30wt on the heavy side, hence my choice of GC.

The manual specifies OCI of 3750 for severe service and 7500 for normal.

Thanks for the info so far. I checked the owners manual. It does say 7500 for normal driving. I have 4500 miles on mine. I had the stealer change the oil at 3750 because I had to take it in for a blown head light. They used GTX 5w30 and added krex to it. I dont plan on letting them continue to change the oil. Should I flush the system of the krex before I go to the 7500 OCI? Should I wait until the engine has more miles on it before going to 7500 OCI? What would be a better choice for me Mobil clean 7500 or GC.

*** is KREX. You let them put some type of additive in your oil.

Man I would have a coronary if they did that to me. I would have a blown head gasket.

Tell them to get a grip and use good freakin oil.

Jeez, who sells these products?????????

I didn't tell them to. They do it on all oil changes. Its just a way for them to make $5 more bucks. If they ever change my oil again I will tell them not to use it.

This is what I gather from their literature:

"Krex is the only graphite product sold at Stealerships to surely clog your filter and prematruley wear you engine out."

Jeez.

The info on krex stapled to my reciept says that if you use krex every time you change your oil at the recomended OCI that it extends your engine waranty to 100k miles. I'm not saying I think their product is good and I will not use the dealer for my oil changes. I am just stating what info I have. I checked the local Pep Boys near me, they dont stock Castrol 0w30.

You will find Castrol Syntec 0w30 at AutoZone ONLY. It's not sold anywhere else in the USA at this time.
