April 8th I bought a 2003 Toyota Echo with 31025 Mi. on it. On the 9th I changed to 5W30 M1 and the Wix filter, changed the antifreeze and had the X-mission fluid force changed.

I am now at 33646 Mi and am seeing the oil darken quite a bit. I hope that you can see the image at:

I'm not sure how to inbed the image, but the link copied and pasted should work.

I'm asking if you see this as acceptable for this milage, and also do you know if this engine, 1NZ-FE is a sludger? The concern is if it is a candidate for A-RX at this point. It may be worth the cost to me just for some peace of mind actually.

This car started off life as a leased unit so there is no telling about it's maintainance befor I received it.

The fuel econonmy has risen steadily since I bought it, beginning at 40.7 MPG and now showing a composite economy (all miles and fuel to date) of 41.7 after six refills, with the last individual fill clocking 42.3 MPG. I have no way to discern if this is just because I'm learning to drive it better or what, but lately I'm running the air-conditioner on the way home from work, and the milage is still improving anyway.

My commute is about 420 Mi. a week, and I cross the Santa Cruz mountains between Scotts Valley and San Jose, Ca. which is a morning climd from 500 Ft. MSL to 1800 and back to sea level in the morning, the reverse in the afternoon.

Our fuel change occured a week prior to my purchase of the car, so I doubt that had any effect, my station gets two tankers a day, so I doubt it is fuel related.

I'm the worst speller and typist so pardon the mess. I hope I have offered a proper amount of information and that you kind folks will offer your opinions.

Again, thank you all for this site and educating me whiule I lurked here and learned.

John

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your oil looks identical to the M1 I have in my Mazda Miata. We even use the same paper towels. I think the earliest you will need to auto-rx it would be 75,000. This is the milage I plan to auto-rx my Miata which has had M1 every 6000 miles for most of its life.

Hmm ..this isn't really and additive thing ..but you're kinda going "broad spectrum" ..let's got to the front page ..
