Rolls Royce used their TH400 and GM-Delco-Harrison A/C compressors for years.

And it is widely believed they stole the design for their famous 412 all aluminum V8 from the general as well!

Maybe they bought the rights to the basic block, they were buying a lot of other stuff from them.
Rover even bought the alu 215 Buick/Olds and used it for many years.

This is GOOD news! Since even though both units, the GM and the ZF, have a "no reverse issue", the GM one is not a massive part failure like the ZF with the defective reverse drum.

On the GM transmission the solenoid screen gets plugged up or the solenoid goes bad. The key to diagnosing this problem is if it goes into reverse fine when the car is warmed up.... Which it does

So it is a $250.00 part

She's VERY relieved!

Great news! My son wasn't so lucky, he had the ZF junk,

then ended up totaling the car.

The BMW's used trans' from a GM France division. Generally it's not that GM that can't produce good stuff, but Americans.

Or maybe it's that Americans don't like to buy good stuff.

Not yet, but since it is the GM transmission, the problem is well known and documented and is an inexpensive and easy fix.
