Oil used was RedLine 5W-40 for 13,000KM interval. 6-quart sump capacity, 2 or 3 quarts of top-up oil used as the engine burns some oil. Previous oil was either RedLine 5W30 or 5W40. Daily driven in Toronto winter, 50% city 50% highway. One bottle of RedLine SI-1 injector cleaner was used close to the end of the interval. Air filter is OEM paper, not changed during this interval.

The TBN doesn't look all that impressive after 8K miles given that ~50% of the oil was replaced during this interval.

Hello Manganese in Canadian gasoline

Wow, are Redline sulphur readings usually that high? I can't say I've noticed that before.

I just checked! Maybe it's because Blackstone doesn't check for sulphur, but WearCheck does... d'oh! And according to other WearCheck VOAs on Redline oils, that number seems to be in line with what Redline puts in... sulphonated something or other, anyone?

Ferrari, is that the 2.8 12 valver, the 2.8 30 valver, or the VR6? How many miles on the engine?

That's a pretty small level of manganese in there actually. I've had reports where my manganese was over 100ppm!

Patman, UOAs with USA gasoline usually have 0 or 1 ppm manganese

Just another thing to watch out for... that'd be a great UOA exam question!

Anyone know what's up with the sulfur?

I would replace your PCV valve if you are burning that much oil.

I don't know about the 30v, but the 12v motor doesn't have a PCV valve.

I believe that the high oil consumption in some Audi and VW motors has to do with the skimpy low-tension rings. In case of the 30v, there are also plenty valve stem seals that can and eventually will go bad.
