Another VOA for M1 5w-30 in an Odyssey Engine. This van weened on Penn 5w-20 synthetic and 4500 mile OCIs. Used oringinal Honda 5w-20 for break-in period of 3750 miles. Switched to Penn Syn at 10K miles. Used 5w-30 after reading this forum and wanting to try M1, and no M1 5w-20 in houston. Currently running M1 5w-20. Will sample to compare, but not until 7K OCI. Terry has analyzed.

Used FP 1 oz/5 gals gas, and LC as instructed by Terry.

Dang, looks like your engine is about to melt down as a result of your irresponsible refusal to use 5w-20. . .

Seriously, a nice report, but what's up with the copper? That looks elevated but not "put it on a flatbed now" bad, by any stretch. The other thing is that the TBN seem awfully low for the relatively short OCI. Are you doing anything unusual that might be overstressing the oil (heavy emphasis on very short trips, for example)?

Thanks for posting.

Looks excellent to me. Not sure about the TBN being so low but maybe lots of short trips is the answer. Very low wear metals except the copper which is suppose to go away as the engine wears. I would think at 42,000 copper would have been reduced more. My Miata took 60,000 before the copper dropped to 3ppm. It was not quite as high as yours but started around 13ppm at 20,000 miles.

Looks good. Fe is surprising low especially with M1. Honda v6's do spit out a lot of copper so IMO, it is not major concern but with 40k+ miles, I would have expected the value to be in the high teens. I don't think these motors are candidate for extended drain(normal service-7.5k) especially when used for short driving.

I'd like to see if Fe trends lower with the SM M1. Contains much less Boron. Great report.

My wife drives the van. Lot's of short trips, 10-20 mile RT, stop and go. She's heay on the acceleration. She still thinks she's driving in the UK. :)
