All oils shown are on the 2nd fill.

99,986 - Changed air filter - NAPA Gold
103,611 - Oil changed with RLI 5W20; oil filter changed with AMSOIL EaO20
106,708 - Added 0.5 qt RLI 5W20
109,422 - Removed & cleaned intake manifold & EGR passages with IPA, & throttle body with AMSOIL PowerFoam due to code P0401. It was very 'carboned up' IMO.
110,045 - Added 0.5 qt RLI 5W20
111,194 - Changed air filter - NAPA Gold
111,369 - Added 0.5 qt RLI 5W20
112,389 - Replaced EGR valve
112,518 - Drained oil, changed filter, & collected sample of oil that had 8,907 miles & almost 4 months use.

Code has still not been eliminated. Will try & perform the actual TSB fix with the manifold tweak (EGR pipe kit).

That lead figure gave me a double take! 1.5 quarts of makeup oil is surprising too. How much ASM did you have to use over your last interval? Flashpoint is down a bit, but nitration still looks good. Powerfoam left to sit in EGR passages works real well. Recently we cleaned out an EGR passage that looked like it was full of JB Weld with the power foam! It wasn't JB it was just PLUGGED UP over 125000 miles of use. I'd give the RLI another interval to see if the lead drops and the consumption comes in line because viscosity TBN and TAN look quite good. Is this an automatic trans??

I'll bet RLI is using lead in its add-pack, similar to Neo. You wouldn't get THAT much lead from anything else, unless you got leaded gas...(fuel is 1.55...)

I agree, some odd spikes. I don't see anything all that different between the three oils other than this Pb spike with the RLI.

I would hope the Pb is part of an additive and not corrosion.

Nothing against RLI but I just don't see the value associated with the high prices, sorry.

I don't see value at all with the RLI oils, unfortunately. I like the idea behind it and the fact they are a small American company though.

Demarpaint - I think it's value is in specific applications (just my take).

Could the lead be from some of the intake manifold cleaning? Residual product or gunk getting inhaled?

I imagine the RLI could also be "laying down" still in it's 2nd fill, but still, that's alot of lead with no other signs of abnormal wear.

On these comparisons, the AMSOIL is coming out on top in my view. None are bad though, and I'm sure your engine could run 10k on each for a very long time (albeit with that weird lead spike under control).

Joe

Couldn't the lead be from this step? Seems like if oil wasn't changed immediately after, that this/these products would be the culprit. Does power foam have lead? Also, I take it that RenLube no longer uses copper as an additive?

I disagree that it's not shining, but I agree it's not the "best" listed as far as we can see.

It's pretty much holding up against AMSOIL and Redline, with the spike in lead being the only concern (and oddity).

That's some [censored] fine company to go up against.

Yes but for the price RL and Amsoil are the better deal for that application. Unless it had something to do with the Powerfoam and the code P0401. Maybe the best thing to do is continue using it, and run another OCI.

where's the sodium coming from? It sure isn't from the oil. Find that and you'll find your problem.

Have you used any exceeding strong full strength fuel additives?

That's what I've been saying, but pointing out that it didn't do badly. It held it's own. Just not quite as good.

P.s. AMSOIL had the best TBN/TAN

Lead number was rechecked & is correct. Lead is not from the add pack.
No fuel additives whatsoever during this interval.
PowerFoam is heck on bearings.
Remember, as others have said elsewhere, not all numbers are necessarily wear numbers in the traditional sense. Not that I like to see 186 out beside lead, just saying.
Much more to it than TBN/TAN as everyone should know. With that said, TBN was 60% depleted in almost 9k miles, & TAN rose less than 1 point.

Oil & filter were changed at time of sample. Replaced with RLI 0W20 & AMSOIL EaO20 filter. My initial plan was to go 7500 miles next OCI.

saaber1,
This formulation doesn't use copper in the add pack. That was/is? the HD version.

RI_RS4,
I have no idea on the sodium, yet.

True. Redline has this effect on bearings. Often shows elevated lead.

Correction, RLI had the best (lowest) TAN
