This interval saw my previous daily commute of around 110 miles, mixed in with some other duties. I have since changed jobs and moved, so now I drive around 15 miles a day.

I plan on using GC for a six month winter interval and T&SUV for a six month summer interval in this engine and in my wife's subaru. The diesel Jetta will be getting T&SUV or Rotella during the summer and will be parked for winter.

I don't miss all that driving one bit!

I am almost outta GC...

I am running GC in my 93 toyota 22RE, next I am going to try M1 T&SUV with back to back UOA..

Then Maybe I will run your Havoline just to see what the big deal is.
 
That is a nice UOA. Did you see any drop in mileage using the T&SUV? I am going to give the T&SUV a try myself. The TBN seems to indicate that you could have driven it longer than the 12.5K miles that you drove it. Nice!!
 
Statistically the buck nekid green elves lost out (Fe/mile) - probably due only to being without green lederhosen in a Jeep.

Seriously I think this is one clean machine, as Al called, gives more credence to the "40=Jeep" caterwauling.
 
GC is marginally cheaper, did not perform as well as the M1 (almost 2X the iron on mileage basis) and simply is not available in some parts of the USA. I've never seen it here.

$5.00-$8.35 for M1
$5.00 if you can find it (some people say there are sales for $4.00/qt) for GC
$5.20-$6.85 for Amsoil

Not such a deal when facts are used. GC is a good oil, but it didn't shine here - and slowly other oils are bettering it. And it seems to thicken when pushed.
 
Maybe a small sampling population and trends can't be trusted but nice post. No moly on all brands. Looks like higher viscosity means less iron.

I am pretty impressed with the M1 T&SUV. I can't wait to pick some up and give it a try.

I put on larger tires (30x9.5) and changed the speedometer pinion at about the same time as I installed this oil, so it's really tough to derive solid fuel economy data. Both the pinion I started with and the one I put in are somewhat off, and I haven't taken the time to find out exactly how much and run the numbers. This vehicle is extremely sensitive to driving routine, and I find that my fuel economy data has a high standard deviation, so I gave up recording it every tank, now I just check it every once in a while and try to take it easy.

I think that 1.84 PPM/1k is quite low for one of these engines.

I don't expect I'll ever see another UOA as good as this one. The new commute must be murder on the oil. I should have a GC UOA with the new commute around April/May timeframe.

PS: I think I paid right around $4.00 per quart for this oil. A steal if you ask me!
 
I think 1.84 PPM/1K Fe is about the best I've seen here for this engine. There was one other with Valvoline MaxLife that was pretty sweet too. Most of the rest are 4+ (some way+) ppm/1K miles.
 
Your Fe number is at par with mine over a like interval. I even had a larger sump. This is a great 4.0 UOA.

I'm beginning to believe the obscure suggestion that this is from timing chain wear. If it was from cylinder/ring wear, I would think that my high volume oil pump would trump visc with its higher refresh rate. I had typically high Fe with xw-30 M1 ..and it was reduced with D1 (something like 78 ppm over around 10k). Those who get good Fe reading with xw-30 weights tend to be short trippers where the oil never hits a 30 weight (very few exceptions apply). This leads me to believe that the part being lubricated is visc specific in its "need" and is not a pressure lubed item. That is, the volume of flow over the part doesn't alter its wear. Unless there is some inherent flaw in the flow squirting out the rods ..then it sorta does tend to point to something else
