    Oil for my 496 BBC

I pulled the valve cover and it is baffled. I also wired in a stainless steel scouring pad to wick out the oil and used a different PCV valve. Where I was using 100 miles to a quart, I’m now doing 200 miles. Doubt i can do any better, I’m satisfied I guess. I don’t take it on long trips and the...

That sounds interesting, never heard of one. Any idea where I can buy it, not at Jegs or Summit!

I don’t know, it’s used that much when I bought the car in 2018.

No, it was built in 2002 and oil consumption is high. I’m trying to figure out where the oil is going. Got lots of power, doesn’t smoke, idles well. It was showing rich but I leaned it out. Not quite as much power now but still adequate. I worked on the PCV setup and now getting a little oil at...

    Oil for my 496 BBC

Here’s the latest plug pic from #1 cyl. I also replaced the baffle grommet to a regular open hole gromment. I’m now getting oil residue at the PCV valve which now looks normal. Haven’t run it long enough to know if this affects oil consumption. lo

I didn’t like the grommet either so bought an open one today and also a regular PCV valve.

I don’t know why there are fibers there, perhaps from the rag I wiped them with. Do you think those fibers would actually survive combustion? Other than a carbon buildup, I don’t see all that much wrong with them. Please clarify.

I see different PCV valves called out for the same engine. What exactly is the difference? Vacuum opening? Diameters?

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I apologize for not getting back sooner but a lot has been going on since my last post. Anyway, finally was able to get back on the car yesterday, pulled #8 cylinder plug and the PCV valve. The valve surprised me, there was absolutely no oil in there, not even oil film. Every car I’ve ever had...

I’m looking at replacement valve covers. What are ”dripper rails” and would they help my PCV system?

    Oil for my 496 BBC

I’m back home now and ready to remove the valve covers but first want to install a breather cap and plug the PCV hose And check that out. My intake is a 3963569. Is that a desirable intake?

Good suggestion and Rotella is a good oil, but at $5.40/qt that’s more than I’m paying now for similar oil.

No, have friends that have SWC. Visibility sucks, agree with Zora on that. Too many parts are first model one-of-a-kind. Hard and expensive to replace. Rear ends and trannys are weaker than later years. No thanks, rather have my 65.
