    Why wouldn't a 5w50 be better than a 5w40?

Thank you! Yes, 2023 Fiesta ST. Original colour (Mean Green). One of the final shipments ever to Australia from Cologne, Germany. Epic car.

    Why wouldn't a 5w50 be better than a 5w40?

Totally agree with that. The post I quoted said the journal bearing constantly reverses, and that didn’t sound right to me.

    Hybrid oil

The 0W-8 cars can run up to 10W-30 in Australia.

Oil that meets ILSAC GF-7A and ACEA but the ACEA is wrong

However, there are several C3 oils which meet the fuel economy requirements of C2. These are ‘dual-rated’ C2/C3 oils. They have the 3.5+ HTHS requirement for C3 but demonstrate the fuel economy requirements of C2.

    Valvoline Restore and Protect

Most likely the case. It won’t be a semi-syn as we think of a semi-syn.

    Oil for Land Rover NA AJ133 5.0 V8 LR4

I would run either something like ESP 5W-30 or Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30. You don’t want a xW-20 in an engine with historical timing chain issues in such a big heavy car.

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

Try Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30. It should stop the burning.

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

Correct. I was more saying it is possible to burn fuel once it’s outside the combustion chamber.

With direct injection, you can also inject fuel during the exhaust stroke. That’s how diesels perform DPF regeneration (except those with a dedicated injector in the exhaust stream).

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

The reason the ignition timing is retarded during AWS is so some fuel is burned in the exhaust past the exhaust valves. But the mixture is not enriched like an old school choke – you can’t do that and meet emissions these days.

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

They don’t run rich during that cold start cycle – they retard the ignition timing significantly and open the throttle wide to heat up the cat as quickly as possible. Because the NA Skyactiv engines use really long 4-2-1 headers, it would otherwise take way too long to heat the cat and the...

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

In every other country except USA, the Skyactiv non-turbo engines can run anything from 0W-20 to 10W-30 by the book, and plenty of people in Australia run 5W-40s even with no problem. I run a 5W-30 in these at a minimum.

    Stellantis Hurricane4 Engine Reveal

Ranger PHEV exists in Europe and Australia, so could happen in USA one day. It gets the new 2.3 EcoBoost, 10R80 MHT and a battery you can externally charge. It’s way too overpriced in Australia but having driven one it goes well! Aussies prefer the 3.0L V6 diesel though.

    Oil+filter recommendation for 2005 Ford Focus (2.0l?)

    Any full-synth 5W-30 with API SQ. These engines aren’t picky, but I wouldn’t run a 5W-20.

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

5W-20 and 0W-20 are effectively the same viscosity at operating temperature. There’s no benefit in 5W-20, in fact sometimes 5W-20 oils are lower quality than 0W-20 oils. Just use 5W-30 like the rest of the world does. 0W-20 is for American CAFE regulations and nothing else.
