To be fair to the OP, he did ask what is the best filter “now”. With all the various QC issues we see here on a regular basis, the best filter “now” may be out of favor in a year. As far as what is the best “now”, you can’t go wrong with the new Mobil 1’s, Pentius or ones in the PG portfolio...

Don’t you mean STP XL oil filters?

There is a different procedure for tightening oil filters that have a “P-type” (molded) gasket. You’re suppose to tighten them until the filter housing touches the mating surface. https://napa-filters.com/storage/resources/resource1/NAPA_P-Style_Gasket_Bulletin.pdf
