    2021 MX-5 Miata 6MT Gear Lube

It’s not so much the “cost” as it is the “hard to find”, and I’m sure there are aftermarket alternatives that would work just as well if not better that are easier to obtain.

    2021 MX-5 Miata 6MT Gear Lube

Manual says every 2 years or 30000 for severe service but my mileage is low so pushing it to 3 years.

    2021 MX-5 Miata 6MT Gear Lube

It’s coming up on time to swap out the gear lube on my Miata. Manual says to only use Mazda Long Life Gear Oil IS to maintain the original shift feel, however this stuff is hard to find and when you can find it they ask for $35+ per quart. The manual also says 75W-90 GL-4 is acceptable however...

2022 Mazda Miata Club RF Recaro

100% what dnewton said. I’ve had similar results with my catch can. Was worried when I installed it about how small it is and how it would fill up too fast. I get maybe a few drops out of it per OCI. Using 0W-30 M1 ESP in my ‘21 Club. Likely overkill as the engine doesn’t seem to care about...

    2023 Mazda CX-50 2.5S - 8043 Miles - Mazda 0W-20

Maybe it’s a late-generation Mazda thing? Before my last oil change in my Miata, I took it for a spirited 30 mile drive to get the oil nice and hot. Was expecting to get a good scalding on my fingers when I pulled the drain plug, but oil probably wasn’t even 110 degrees.

    2021 Mazda MX-5, M1 ESP 0W-30, 5000mi OCI, 15000mi

I I like the higher GDI soot handling ability along with the higher HTHS and viscosity that the 0W-30 formula provides.

    2021 Mazda MX-5, M1 ESP 0W-30, 5000mi OCI, 15000mi

While I agree with that, for my usage that would be nearly 2 years in the sump at the rate I drive it. Not comfortable doing that.

    2021 Mazda MX-5, M1 ESP 0W-30, 5000mi OCI, 15000mi

Nothing seems remarkable here to me except for the low-ish flashpoint combined with the supposedly low fuel dilution. Not a lot of highway miles during this run but it wasn’t typically short-tripped either. M1 ESP went back in, but not sure if I’ll stick with it next time. Seems others here...

    Chevrolet rant

The shudder issue first appeared on my ‘16 Silverado with the 8l90 at around 40000 miles. Dealer did the triple flush procedure per the TSB and it did fix the problem…temporarily. It started again about 20000 miles later..even with the supposedly new and improved Mobil 1 fluid. Two fluid...

2016 Silverado 5.3, 7800mi on oil Out: Valvoline EP 0W-20, Fram Ultra In: Frankenblend M1EP, Valvoline EP, PUP all 0W-20, Fram Endurance. Got tired of looking at oil jugs with 2 quarts left in them from previous changes lol

    Farewell, Nissan Altima

Rented one (4th generation) in Hawaii while I was waiting for my car to be shipped to the mainland. Wasn’t impressed either. The cherry on top was the transmission quitting on me on the way back to the rental lot. Pushed the gas, engine revved, car didn’t move. Looked at the odometer…9k miles...

Help me plan a strategy for a neglected Kia

It’s a Kia…it can be stolen with a USB stick. Park it on a city street with the doors unlocked. 🤣

    2021 Mazda MX-5 2.0L, Factory Fill 0W-20, 3800 miles, 12 months

Not an automotive engineer, but I can’t see how an ADBV would be detrimental to this engine with its bottom mounted filter that is comically small. Also don’t see the harm in not having one. Perhaps someone more technical minded can chime in?

    Honda Odyssey J35Y6 recommendations

I had heard that the VCM issues had been sorted out in the latest generation, but maybe it’s too soon to tell.

    Honda Odyssey J35Y6 recommendations

Picked up a ‘23 Odyssey for the wife as well a few months ago. I won’t dump the factory fill until 5000 miles and will change at 5000 mile intervals afterwards with probably Mobil 1 and a Fram Ultra. What kind of mileage are you all seeing in the latest generation? Have yet to break more than...

“Synthetic oil absorbs more water than conventional”

Wow..that is way better than the Chevrolet service manager that tried to tell me that if I didn’t use AC Delco oil, it would void the warranty on my truck. When I asked what was so special about his oil, he said it was specifically formulated to the unique construction of my GM engine. I laughed...
