HPL PCMO 5w30 - Subaru Outback 3.6r using oil

In one of my subarus HPL consumption nearly stops after 9,000-10,000 miles, regardless of viscosity used. It behooves me to run HPL as long as possible in that engine for overall less consumption. See what happens throughout your interval.

When Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w40 becomes available this will be my go to off the shelf oil for EJ

Another Deeply Personal and Meaningful Valvoline Restore and Protect Journey

~20-25k or more on only VRP including top off. First oil change was about 111k and had various top off with consumption ~1qt/1,000 or worse. 122k it was mid to end of 2nd VRP.

Another Deeply Personal and Meaningful Valvoline Restore and Protect Journey

It's a customers car. He bought it about 110k miles give or take. On VRP interval 2 I took pictures of the sides of pistons from wrist pin access holes at time of timing belt at 122k. Currently 142k. It is either on interval 5 or 6 currently. 1st interval it got any brand of oil as top off...

Another Deeply Personal and Meaningful Valvoline Restore and Protect Journey

I just did an 8k interval oil change on a 2007 Forester EJ253 that after 30,000 miles of VRP went from over 1 quart per thousand to 1.25 quarts added over that 8k interval. Hang in there

    Valvoline Restore and Protect

this vehicle has dropped oil consumption from 1 quart or greater per 1,000 miles to 1.25 quarts in a 7,500 mile interval after about 30,000 miles of Valvoline Restore and Protect. I've dissected each oil filter, never any significant or abnormal deposits to see in filter. These pictures of...

Toyota’s stance on using a heavier weight oil

Out of curiosity had anybody had one of these engines fail running thicker than 20 grade? I heard they have around 4-5 psi oil pressure hot. Combined with fuel diluted 20 grade and high load, really makes me wonder.

    2026 Forester hybrid towing

Wild. I would love to know the reasons for the minor changes. I remember reading the 17-18 had minor suspension geometry changes compared to 14-16. I feel the 6mt versions should've had higher tow ratings but if it is rear suspension limited, what determines that compared to other countries

Post your oil pressure at 4,000 rpm

Did it 10,000 miles ago and the cold oil pressure doesnt drop with revs anymore 😅

Post your oil pressure at 4,000 rpm

Not a reliable indication but this is our 2006 Express 4.8L screenshot at about 4,000. It may be higher but the pressure is similar in behavior. The needle jumps around, I don't trust it, but since a few Valvoline Restore and Protect changes it jumps around higher under revs 😅

    2026 Forester hybrid towing

My forester is 2018 FB25 and manual transmission. I have towed small cargo trailer with trailer brakes across country multiple times. Car tows well. I would plan on thicker oil than the 0w16 yours is recommended to use, especially without oil cooler. My towing oil temps are 225-260 and usually...

Overheating, what makes a Subaru a Subaru!

Did you test the air in the cooling system with an exhaust gas tester? Ive seen air that mimicked head gaskets be from the coolant crossover pipe o rings. No external leak but allowing fresh air in. Worth testing for some $7 o rings

    Who is using 10w-30?

After 23,000 miles of Valvoline Restore and Protect cleanup, I've switched to the long awaited 10w30 HPL No VII in my 2018 Forester. 300 miles on the oil so far. Forester will be pulling the trailer across country a few times on this oil. I've been waiting for this!
