In-Laws and poor financial choices - rant

Okay, so you don't like that I have four vehicles, not counting my wife's 2024 hybrid Accord. You especially don't like that I bought that Bronco Outer Banks Sasquatch the end of December. You think I have not saved enough for retirement. Well, I also add to our savings almost every month...

Why do people strongly opine about topics they know nothing about?

I know something very important about the Egyptian pyramids. I know they are there. Herodotus explained how they were built, but that was over 2,000 years later.

Federal Pacific Panel Prevents House Closing

Seller's estate is managed by idiots. That is not all that unusual. When we built our house in western Washington back in 1984-85 we installed a 300 amp service with a 200 amp and 100 amp FPE panel and circuit breakers. I have never heard of it being an issue, but maybe in the last 14 years...

Finally got one of the new USPS mail delivery trucks...

Supai, AZ and Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon both get their mail brought in by mule. Supai is the tribal headquarters of the Havasupai Tribe and is inside the Grand Canyon, but not at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. It is an incredibly beautiful area.

Need help - car accident near Lake Havasu?

It is surprising so little information is available. Usually fatalities are announced on the local radio news reports. I have heard nothing. Not that I actually pay attention to that much on the radio. Still, three dead is pretty serious and Mohave County is not big a community population wise.

    Roundup time

I would rather not douse myself with any chemical. And yes, there are articles that agree with OP's opinion. No, I am not going to link them for you.

    It's been 40 years since I ran a jackhammer

Back then, China Freight had one on sale for about $ 400. No, it was not a Makita or DeWalt, but is would have been good enough for my purposes.

    Roundup time

It has been well over a decade since I bought Roundup, but when I did it was the generic stuff and I read the label to be sure it was 41% glyphosate.

    It's been 40 years since I ran a jackhammer

Electric jack hammers are fun to use and the results are very satisfying. I have often thought of buying one, but it is pretty rare that a reason to use one comes up. So I rent.

A B-52 crashed today on takeoff

I am sure there is a video that will show the crash and allow analysts to figure out what happened. The last B-52 was delivered on October 26, 1962. It was a B-52H. The first B-52H was delivered in May 1961. All of the B-52s in service are the H model, so this one would be one of those and...

Who wants to be my neighbor?

Isn't that is California? Absolutely no way. If I want a large lot like that there are lots of places in Arizona that provide all the dry ground, rattlesnakes, dirt roads, etc. a person could want. This July it will be two years since the Mohave Green Rattlesnake was in our back yard. We...

energy usage calculation for home cooling

Always an interesting discussion, but I see no need for anger. Maybe I overthink it, but I like saving money. I did an analysis of my electric bill yesterday and found the cost of electricity during off peak is about 8.6 cents per kwh. The utility pays me about 9.3 cents per kwh for excess...

What’s your Home Charging Price / kWh?

Okay, last month I used 307.53 kwh. My bill was -34.67. Not very meaningful. The point of my post was about the cost of electricity with solar. The cost of charging can be quite low based on the low off peak rate.

What’s your Home Charging Price / kWh?

I got my electric bill today and was surprised to see a credit for $34.67. So, of the $300 I paid a year ago February, I have $321.54 left. Not bad. I analyzed the bill to see what electricity is costing. Off peak costs $.086605 per kwh. Peak costs $.176504 per kwh. Excess generation gets...

    Lake Mead water level video

It is not clear to me how Hoover Dam is altering the ecosystem of the Grand Canyon. However, Glenn Canyon Dam, which should never have been built, is very definitely altering the Grand Canyon ecosystem. The major reason Hoover Dam was built was to control flooding on the Lower Colorado River...

    Lake Mead water level video

That is our concern and that is why the people of the greater Kingman area were opposed when out of area farmers came in and started drilling big wells to irrigate crops in our desert. However, antiquated Arizona laws protect the farmer's "right" to that water and they cannot be stopped. The...

For those suggesting pumping water from another river. It probably makes more sense to steal it the Columbia River. That will go over well.

    Lake Mead water level video

The way you say that, it comes across as if you actually believe it. First of all, the article is casino industry propaganda from casino.org. Next, according to the article, the 70% figure is specifically for the casinos. The casinos are not nearly as big a problem as the uncontrolled growth...

Started a healthy diet, when do I start to feel better?

There is a certain amount of body fat that is healthy and even necessary. By my very simple calculations, I am well over 20% body fat. In fact, at 150 pounds I will still have over 20% body fat. My wife says at 158 I will no longer be over weight. That gives me a good shorter term goal. I...
