I’m more interested in viscosity and wear metals. The engine only has 12000 miles on it. I’ve changed the oil at 6000 and 10000 miles, and both of the tests I’ve done stated low viscosity, which weirds me out a little.

Well I finally figured it out. I bought the smallest rubber tubing I could get from Napa. I was able to fit inside a small piece of the 1/4” plastic tubing I had as an adapter for the pump. I had to cut the rubber tube at an angle to get it all the way down to the oil. It took forever to pump...

I have an oil sampling hand pump to sample through the dipstick tube, but I cannot get the plastic tube to reach the oil for some reason. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone made it work? I want to do a sample before a big towing trip without changing the oil. Thanks.

I don’t know what TBN is, but the manual does not call for more frequent oil changes when new.

I’m not worried about it. Generally people get on the internet and ***** about the vehicle they have and how it has problems. The other 99% of satisfied owners don’t usually get online to rave about how great their rig is. So it’s probably way overblown.

I can explain it. As far as how a lubricant can quiet it, I cannot. I can just tell you what I’ve read. The first generation of new hemi’s and even some newer ones had a ticking noise in the valvetrain. People get freaked out about it because there have been problems with them flattening cams...

Yes sir. 0W-40 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. From what I’ve read from people trying to quiet the “Hemi Tick” with 5W-40, it will throw codes because the MDS and/or cam phaser stuff doesn’t play well with them.

Roger. We’ll see what the next sample says. For the most part, it looks like everything is trending in the right direction. The viscosity is the only thing that looked a little odd. It is a Ram, if the engine makes 300k, I’m sure everything else will fall apart.

I buy the recommended filters and oil simply because of warranty. I know about the lawsuit that a vehicle manufacturer lost that set a precident in which a vehicle manufacturer has to prove that the oil used caused a specific failure, which they could almost never do. And I have a 15 year...

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought Fram filters sucked. This is from years ago, but I thought they were cheesy and had cardboard in them that degrades. Not true now? At work we use Donaldson and Wix in big trucks. And Napa gold or platinum for fleet vehicles.

Can you recommend a better filter? I’ve been using Mopar ones just in case there’s a warranty issue in case they try to crawfish a claim.

It is. It says so in the manual. It comes in a Mopar box, but the bottle says Pennzoil.
