New Douglas tire at Wally World

I was browsing at my local Walmart last night and noticed they had a new Douglas Touring AS tire. Looking at the sizes they had in stock, it appears that this is replacing both the Douglas All Season and Douglas Performance tires they stocked previously.

Need a tire rec - 09 Honda CRV

I’ve had Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S tires on my 2009 CR-V since 2019. I’ve been happy with them, but I will eventually replace them with all weathers (probably either Nokian (lol) or the new Falken Aklimate).

Durango oil filter/cooler housing leaking again :-(

Update: After 11 months and 11,000 miles, the SKP is leaking big time. It’s still under warranty for a few more weeks but I don’t think I want to put another one in.

2014 Chrysler T&C suspected oil cooler leaking

Update on the SKP aluminum housing: I smelled hot oil while driving today. I parked the van for a couple hours and found a nice puddle of oil underneath. I’m 342 days out from my original purchase date so Rock Auto will replace it, but I’m not sure I want to put another one of these in.

    2017 Mitsubishi Outlander 3.0L V6 ?

The warranty and maintenance manual for a 2016 Outlander calls for a 105k interval on the timing belt.

    2017 Mitsubishi Outlander 3.0L V6 ?

I believe the 3.0 V6 in the Outlander has a timing belt whereas the 4 cylinder has a timing chain, so you may want to keep that in mind as many 2016-2017s with the V6 are probably getting close to needing that replaced.

    Nordman Solstice

With the announcement of the Nokian WRG5, it looks like the WRG4 is now the Nordman Solstice 4. https://www.moderntiredealer.com/retail/article/33018667/nokian-expands-nordman-line

    Budget struts?

Back in November I bought Monroe quick struts for my 2011 Town and Country on Amazon. The right side was like $20 more than the left for some reason, but I got both for like $200. I replaced the sway bar links and bushings and the rear shocks as well. The van is riding significantly better and I...

2014 Chrysler T&C suspected oil cooler leaking

I replaced the housing on my 2011 Town and Country last spring with the SKP brand aluminum housing from Rock Auto. It’s a nicely made part and comes pre-assembled with new sensors (the Dorman aluminum housing requires assembly and does not include sensors). I’ve gone over 9,000 miles with it and...

    Chevy Traverse Hearse

I had to pull over for a funeral procession today and noticed that one of our local funeral homes has acquired a Chevrolet Traverse hearse (or maybe it’s a Trav-hearse?). Overall it was pretty odd looking and appeared to be stretched behind the rear wheels. Seems like a mediocre last ride IMO...

54 week old LG refrigerator failure

Yes. They even had a 50% rebate on the warranty so I bought the 5 year.

54 week old LG refrigerator failure

I just junked a 6 year old LG fridge this morning. The dealer I brought it from (that usually provides great service) said my best option was probably to replace it. They said the compressor would be covered under warranty but I’d have to pay $700 in labor for the repair. They also couldn’t come...

Honda K24 2.4L / 5 speed AT - known issues / what to look for?

My 2009 CR-V has been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s been in the family since new and I’ve had it since 2016. It had its first repair outside of routine maintenance this year (O2 sensor). Depending on your location, frame rust is a concern on the 3rd gen CR-V and there is a...

    Nordman Solstice

I believe as long as the snowflake is still visible on the tread depth indicator that they meet requirements for winter performance.

    Nordman Solstice

I’m still running the Nordmans on the van and they’ve been great. I currently have 21k on the tires and am at 6/32 all the way around which is actually exceeding my expectations.

Here are unboxing photos of the SKP.

Durango oil filter/cooler housing leaking again :-(

I upgraded my 2011 Town and Country to an aluminum housing back in March. The Dorman part was out of stock at that time, so I opted to use the SKP brand aluminum housing from Rock Auto. The SKP looked to be well made and has been leak free for 8,000 miles. Another benefit of the SKP is that it...

    Les Schwab expanding eastward

I was in Watertown, SD today and drove by a new Les Schwab under construction. Prior to seeing this I thought they only existed in western states, but it appears they are starting to pop up in the upper Midwest. I did some digging and found they are also currently building in Sioux Falls...

Michelin tires with cracks and only 7k miles on them - safe to use?

Wouldn’t the fact this car needed a new battery at 7k miles and that it took TWO YEARS to get a replacement be a bigger red flag than tires? I’d put some Linglongs or Westlakes on it so when you have to park it in another 7k miles you don’t ruin another set of expensive tires.

    Test drove a Mitsubishi Mirage

I had always been intrigued by the Mirage, but am pretty skeptical of them now. My brother-in-law needed a car a few years ago and I found a good deal on a low mileage 2017 GT for him. He just sent it to the scrap heap at 57k miles with a failed CVT. He was past the 5 year warranty and the local...
