Disappearing (burning) oil - need ideas, please help newbie

Sorry for the lapse of update everyone. I think I mentioned before moving 1800 miles and building new house. House structure finished. Most boxes are unpacked. Driveway was just poured. Another new grandkid too (I'm a youngish 52) @350Rocket can you post a link to those pics? I tried to find...

Disappearing (burning) oil - need ideas, please help newbie

A lot of short trips. Per odometer & hr meter I'm like averaging 26- 28 mph if I remember right. I'd have to go look again... but I'm over 5k hours.

I've been primarily using Valvoline HM 5-30 at oil change... I think its a synthetic blend.

Good info. Makes sense as to why I've seen the term umbrella seal. If... if I decide to DIY, this is what im leaning towards trying. Thanks for chiming in.

Disappearing (burning) oil - need ideas, please help newbie

My sister lives in Austin area... Bee Cave to be exact. I plan on seeing her for Christmas hopefully. I think I'm going to try a 15W-xx eve though I've been hesitate on going thicker because it idled worse with all the thick additives in it... granted it was probably too much of the goop. But...

Ivery thought about that but guess if seafoam in the crankcase doesn't work to clean coked piston oil rings then a berrymans piston soak might not clear coked piston oil rings either. Maybe I'm wrong.....?

Thanks. Nice to get some consensus. That's been my general plan but I think got carried away with additives inatead of just buying more oil with the money. In about 5 months I'll buy new and make a decision to 1) sell it with full disclosure or 2) pay for attempt to fix or replace motor to keep...

I dont disagree with the valve and piston rings but...... Only a little smoke at morning start that looks like steam but is probably smoke. I never see smoke while driving or idling at stop.lights or drive thru after it's warmed up. That's what most odd to me and has me puzzled.... there is no...

What's everyone's thought as to how many seafoam to crankcase treatments should I do to have a reasonable chance of the piston oil rings be clear? Once that's done, I'll try to find a happy medium with thicker oil and feed as necessary till death do us part. Maybe run cataclean once as 1 last...

Disappearing (burning) oil - need ideas, please help newbie

Lol... thanks. Seriously. To keep feeding it oil has been my plan for that last 5+ yrs. I kept telling my wife it's cheaper than a new or rebuilt motor. And it kept passing smog check up to last Sept so I let it ride. Now I'm in east TX and they don't have smog test in my county and I should...

I agree about the junkyard motor. I dnot like the idea of gambling $3500 with an unknown engine and mechanic. At least at the dealer I'd get a 100k warranty that will probably last at least another 150k and could climb the dealer food chain if things go sideways. If I could find a mechanic that...

Forgot to mention. I've helped build a cpl motors as a kid. Fairly mechanical. I've changed VC half shafts do my own oil changes.... never done breaks but have help a few times and know I could if I had to. Fixed washing machines and dryers... Just moved half way across the country and dont...

Disappearing (burning) oil - need ideas, please help newbie

That's the exact impression I got from the dealer. I'm 52 and been down the dealer diagnos rabbit hole before. I'm not an idiot and do know a few things but realize I'm not a mechanic and they are.. or at least should be more than unplug and replace type mechanics. Based on that it's not...

I see you deleted while I was replying... I do appreciate you replying Yes, it's old and I accept it. Just trying to get max life out of it. I've found a place that will install a junk yard motor for $3k-$3500 range. Best one available at the time was a 100k motor. Worst one was 180k or 190k...

I forgot to mention. .... From my research, yes, the valve stem seals can be but right now I don't have the space or tools to do it. I'm very leary of paying the dealer fr a fishing expedition at thier hourly rate and havent found a private mechanic i feel comfortable is capable.

Actually, that was part of my plan because..... about 3-4 wks ago I left it idling for a while with AC on hot day and the truck got pretty warm. Shut it off and finished conversation.... then went to walmart. As I was driving to walmart the check engine light turned off. It's been on since...
