Seal Conditioners in Redline/Amsoil vs M1 HM

Hello gents; I posted another topic here about what oil would be best for my car and I have now decided what that is . What I would like to ask, for those who know, is how are the “seal conditioners” in Amsoil or Redline compared to those in M1 HM? Do either one of those have robust seal...

On the contrary. This has been tremendously helpful. I am now trying to get a better understanding of how different a DOHC “flat tappet” engine is and researching it, simply because of the comments here. Thank you all. But, so far, there have been several different things stated here. Including...

Thank you for your reply. “Progress” is no measure of certainty of improvement. Specially for an engine that can’t evolve or adapt to it. Either my type of engine requires the API SH levels of ZDDP available when it was produced, or it does not. I suppose I need to pursue that question further...

So ZDDP does not matter in my engine with flat tappets ? Why? This is a AJ16 engine, which is really a developed AJ6 from the early-mid 1980’s. Are you saying it’s untrue that flat tappet engines need ZDDP on the levels common in the 80’s and 90’s , or that my particular engine does not require it?

Hardly any…..I imagine because the guys that own these are running 20w50 or 10w40 and the ZDDP is now just very recently going below 1000?

Thanks for your response. I called (again) today, and explicitly asked about seal conditioners in their products. They said “all their products have seal conditioners, and the z-rod is no exception. I don’t think I can get any more information other than that. It’s just a matter of me taking the...

Without being presumptuous, it’s not about money at all. To condense it to one sentence: it’s about the fear/cowardice that the seals in my car, after 8 years on Mobil 1 HM, are going to start weeping with the Amsoil. That’s it. Nothing more nothing less.

The list is accurate. The QandA part is what is outdated, which the list confirms

Thanks for your reply. I did call, and while they extremely helpful and knowledgeable, when it came to the point of the “seal conditioners” in their product they told me “that is something they don’t advertise” So that is why I am relying on the anecdotal experience of members here and those...

Thank you for your reply. The fact that the AJ16 straight six Jaguar engine is a flat tappet engine would be my “technical” reason. I understand that flat tappet engines need a ZDDP level of 1000 or more. Quite honestly, M1 HM has served me well, and it was ideal in the sense that it had the...

Good morning to you as well. The link you posted to M1 10W40 HM is outdated. Back then the ZDDP was 1100. After the latest reformulation it is 900. It was 1000 for a while between those two The reason I want to switch away from M1 HM is because of the dropping ZDDP. My engine is flat tappet...

Thank you for your reply. I do wish I had gone to Amsoil Z Rod back when I got the car. I would not be having this problem now, I just was not aware that companies could continuously reformulate an oil but still call it the same thing at that time, and M1 HM was so easily accessible. As I...

Thank you for your response. Yes, I agree. That’s why I had settled for M1 HM 10w40 in perpetuity for this car, when they where at 1100, kept using it at 1000, but now they are at 900, and I imagine they will soon drop that too. This is why I am looking to Amsoil Z rod. Seems like a smaller...

Hello gents; I have a 95 Jaguar XJS with a AJ16 straight 6 4.0 engine that I have been running M1 HM 10W40 in for 8 or 9 years. At the time I picked this oil, the ZDDP was 1100. A few years ago I found it went to 1000, and I just now found out it’s 900. The AJ16 is a flat tappet engine, so when...
