Redline D4 vs. M1 Synth ATF in VW-ZF Tiptronic

That was exactly my concern. OTOH, a friend who tried the M1 in the same tranny said that he noticed the same #2 and #3 behavior and his fluid was low. So I need to check the fluid before I do anything else. Up on the jackstands again - argh.

Redline D4 vs. M1 Synth ATF in VW-ZF Tiptronic

During the downshift, the engine will rev because the TC is a fluid coupling and its lockup mechanisms are disengaged. So you just artfully stab the throttle so that when the downshift completes, the engine revs match the drivetrain revs. There are people who have told me flat-out that it is...

Redline D4 vs. M1 Synth ATF in VW-ZF Tiptronic

I just finished a fabulously successful 51,000 mile run of Redline D4 in my 1998 Passat, whose ZF-Tiptronic tranny specs the Esso LT71141 fluid. In short, the D4 vastly improved shifting and lazy Torque Converter lockup, and when drained after 51,000 miles of hard driving (including track events...

    Auto Tranny Rebuild advice needed

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'm still leaning towards doing it myself, but I'll check out some of the other options. I don't have a lot of faith in the junkyard approach. IIRC the auto-tranny is rare in this truck. I've already checked the two biggest ones in Albuquerque and they don't...

    Auto Tranny Rebuild advice needed

So, if I go ahead with this project - I should buy the Master Kit plus a TC, right off the bat?

    Auto Tranny Rebuild advice needed

I am strongly considering rebuilding the auto tranny in my wife's 1992 Nissan truck. It's a JATCO, model RL4R01A. If I had the money, I'd just buy a tranny outright, but I don't have the money. However, I do have tools, time, and an ATSG manual. Would appreciate some feedback as to whether it is...

    Fuel Hose vs. Oil Hose?

Thanks! I thought it should be OK, since fuel line handles high pressures; but I wasn't sure what the hot oil would do to it.

    Fuel Hose vs. Oil Hose?

I recently installed an oil pressure gauge, and had to remote it from the "T" fitting. I used 5/16" I.D. fuel hose to do this. Is fuel hose acceptable to use with oil, or is there a special type of oil hose I should use?

    Water Wetter and G-12 Compatible?

Cool, Thanks! Have you logged with a VAG-COM or done anything else to determine if the engine is running cooler?

Thanks for the link. Fascinating thread. I'm going with Redline until RP proves itself.

    "Best" oil for VW 1.8T?

RE: Watkins Glen Track Days - check out www.scda1.com. These guys are a class act. I found out about it through my favorite Passat forum - www.clubb5.com Thanks, guys, for all your advice. I'm going with Redline 10W-40 for now, and let more UOA's come in on RP. I don't know why I thought I...

    Water Wetter and G-12 Compatible?

I just got an email back from Dave Granquist at Redline tech support, and he says "Yes the Water Wetter is compatible with all the new style antifreezes."

    What's a "torque stick?"

    Water Wetter and G-12 Compatible?

Anyone here know for sure if Redline's Water Wetter is compatible with G-12 (VW/Audi) Coolant?

    "Best" oil for VW 1.8T?

Wow, I hadn't been here for about three weeks, and now allofasudden I have a conundrum. I had decided to try RP, and I'm about 1000 miles on it. Had been using M1 5W-40; UOA was very good except for higher-than-normal iron and lead for a 1.8T. So I just heard of Patman's less than stellar UOA...

what kinda oil??? Royal purple? Civic.

OUCH! I'm running RP in my '98 Passat 1.8T. Don't want this kind of thinning in my engine. Only have 1000K on it, was going to do OA at next change. Do you have a link to the thread you posted? Thanks - Rusty

    Nissan Truck Clacking on startup

Oooo, I just thought of another thing. If the lifters are gummed up enough to allow bleed-down (and this happens quickly, just parking it for an hour results in several seconds of clacking on startup), could they also not have enough pressure to fully activate the valves, thus causing a loss of...

    Nissan Truck Clacking on startup

Yeah, I guess I did leave myself wide open ("only started clacking after I married her") Gummed-up hydraulic lifters bleeding down sounds like a good analysis, because it's definitely lifter clack that I hear. I was thinking about trying Auto-Rx at the next oil change. Any reason to prefer...

    Nissan Truck Clacking on startup

The wife's '92 Nissan 4-cyl truck, with approx 70K miles on it, clacks horribly on startup, lasting several seconds. Doesn't seem to matter what oil or filter I use, however, she used to use cheapo straight 30-wt and it didn't clack then. Only started clacking after I married her and put 10W-30...
