Dayco molded lower radiator hose poor quality

Sorry to hear that some of you have had bad luck with Dayco hoses. In October 2020, I replaced my heater core and decided to replace the lower radiator hose as well; Dayco 71806 for a 1998 Volvo S70...I had to replace my radiator in May 2023 and inspected the lower hose. Replacement radiator was...

    Valvoline maxlife or valvoline

Per the PI sheet for the product, Maxlife ATF is "recommended for" those applications which require a DEXRON license. Nowhere does it say that it meets the requirements for that license nor is it a GM licensed fluid. In any event, the product meets a wide range of specifications, including...

    Valvoline maxlife or valvoline

There is no tempting fate here at all. DEXRON-VI is the proper replacement for the no longer available DEXRON-III licensed fluid. But I'm a bit confused, are you using a DEXRON-VI fluid or Maxlife? Maxlife is not licensed. I am using Valvoline MaxLife ATF which is full synthetic and meets Dex...

    Valvoline maxlife or valvoline

I am currently running Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic in my 1998 Volvo S70 with the Aisin Warner AW50-42 transmission with no issues at all. The AW50-42 calls for a Dexron III spec fluid but I decided to tempt fate and run a Dexron VI, full synthetic formulation and MaxLife ATF works very...

    Recommended oil

6t9, My guess is any available 10w40, either mineral or synthetic would serve your purposes well. My 1998 Volvo S70 non-turbo is fed a diet of either Formula Shell or Pennzoil YB, both in 10w40. No issues to speak of at all while doing 4K OCI's..If you feel you want the additional ZDDP...

Since PYB is basically gone now..

I still run my 1998 Volvo S70 N.A on Pennzoil 10w40 YB. 198,000 miles and right now at 2,000 miles since last oil change. The engine hasn't burned a drop. I've been running 4K OCI with no issues..Home Depot still sells the only 2 oils I use; Pennzoil YB and Formula Shell, both in 10w40..Volvos...

Modern vehicles that are both reliable and easy to work on

The 1998 Volvo S70 non turbo I-5 is easy to work on..spark plugs, oil changes, transmission fluid changes, ignition coil, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, throttle position sensor, thermostat, coolant temp sensor, upper radiator hose, coolant reservoir hoses, transmission...

From M1 HM 10W40 to AMSOIL ZROD 10W40 95 JAGUAR

I think that sometimes people tend to over think things. I'd go with the same weight and brand you are using and not obsess about the ZDDP content. What does your owners' manual recommend? Unless you are running a 1940's SA rated oil, I wouldn't be worried about wear to the cams etc.

How awful are these cheap tires?

Kira, I have used Douglas tires on two of my cars..10 years ago I bought a set of 4 for my 1998 Chevy Cavalier and currently I have a set on my 1998 Volvo S70. As I recall, the tires on the Cavalier were the Xtra-Trac series made in Argentina. It was rated a 40,000 mile tire and that's exactly...

How awful are these cheap tires?

I bought a set of 4 Douglas All Season 195/60/15 for my Volvo S70 and they've have performed very well. Purchased them July 4th weekend 2020; the set of 4 installed was about $250. Tire has a 45,000 mile tread life. I rotated them once at Walmart because apparently I purchased lifetime balance...

Spark Plugs - Looking for opinions

Perhaps slightly off topic, but my 1998 Volvo S70 N/A specs only 2 spark plugs as per the owner's manual and those plugs are Bosch FR7DC or Champion RC9YC..both are copper core with a Nickel-Chromium electrode..I have run both plugs in my car and they have both done very well...one day perhaps...

    M1 10w40 High Mileage OK in a 1988 L98 Corvette?

2EHA, I am currently running Pennzoil 10w40 YB at 4k OCI with no issues at all. I may have to make the switch to Mobil 1 10w40 high mileage as most other 10w40's are being dropped...Home Depot still carries Formula Shell and Pennzoil YB, both in 10w40. Either of those 2 oils and a Supertech...

Problems with universal ATF in Volvos

This is an old thread, however I wanted to toss in my .02...I bought a 1998 Volvo S70 in June 2020 from the original owner. Car uses an Aisin AW50-42LE 4 speed transmission. The vehicle had 174,000 miles and looked as if the transmission fluid had never been changed or was severely neglected; it...

    M1 10w40 High Mileage OK in a 1988 L98 Corvette?

Rob, I think you'd be fine running 10w40 at up to 5,000 OCI with the Vette. I used either Formula Shell or Pennzoil YB, both in 10w40 for my 1998 Volvo S70 and have never had an issue using a 10w40; no oil consumption issues of any kind...

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

I run Pennzoil 10w40 YB in my 1998 Volvo S70 year round and the Volvo 5 cylinder White Block engines seems to love it..there are plenty of Pennzoil YB haters out there..but I have never had any issues using Pennzoil in my car..I pick up a 5 qt jug at Home Depot for $18..great stuff!

    Thin vs Thick Discussion

Excellent point Kschachn! Motor oils are getting better all the time. In the 80's, VII was a problem but today it is truly a thing of the past. I'll continue to use 10w40 for as long as it's available.

    Thin vs Thick Discussion

Since owning my 1st car back in 1987, a 1986 Mercury Capri, then a 1981 Toyota Cressida, to a 1998 Chevy Cavalier to my current 1998 Volvo S70 non turbo, I have pretty much used 10w40 for all these cars throughout their lifetimes. 10w40 has a bad reputation today for being too thick, too many...

250K Trans never serviced. Should I?

You are sitting on a time bomb that could go off any time now...or possibly never. Logic would dictate that you at least drop the pan, replace the filter and do a refill. I wouldn't do any kind of power flush. Changing the fluid at this point however might dissolve any dirt that is helping to...

    Post your latest oil change

Last oil change was 2 days ago; May 18th on my 1998 Volvo S70 non turbo; 6 quarts of Pennzoil 10w40 Yellow Bottle and Supertech ST-16 Oil filter. I've been doing 4K intervals with no consumption issues. Car just turned 196,000 miles

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

1998 Volvo S70 non turbo which just turned 196,000 miles...Still runs like a champ. Original Aisin M50-42AW 4 speed transmission and still shifts perfectly; fluid changes every 20,000 miles with Valvoline MaxLife ATF. Engine has been running 10w40, either Formula Shell or Pennzoil YB...
