Any actual data on lifetime of Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFBs) in Standard (not Stop-Start) Cars?

Well, FWIW, for the EFB, looks like they give it whatever their standard Platinum (AGM) battery gets - Autozone 36-month, PepBoys 48-month. Have only seen one post here about the Exide/Stryten EFB (from last July in the Post Your New Battery thread). Believe Clarios makes EFBs too (saw as a...

Any actual data on lifetime of Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFBs) in Standard (not Stop-Start) Cars?

Noticed that the few EFBs retailed here (USA) are running about 5-15% over standard Flooded (long-warranty tier) prices at the same stores (AZone PepBoys, etc). Guess they are re-branded Exide/Stryten M51R-EXs, rather than, say, Vartas. All claim enhancements like 1.5-2 greater "cycles" etc...

Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. Don't discounts/coupons apply to auto batteries any more?

    > What car is the 51R going into? It'd be an '04 TSX. I had considered the tray/size upgrade back when it was a daily commuter car, but it's a small engine, and had found even the factory 410 CCA always cranked the K24A2 over well, even in winter, and one later 500 CCA kept working fine for some...

Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. Don't discounts/coupons apply to auto batteries any more?

    > NAPA presently has a code that works for batteries, NAPA is not local for me, but that info surely could be useful to some here ... Seems I had only looked at the 36-month AAA branded 51R. Just took another look, and see that the 18- and 24- month NAPA branded are specifically tagged as "20%...

Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. Don't discounts/coupons apply to auto batteries any more?

Wow thanks for the super-fast replies. Too bad about coupon codes. But not surprised. Yes, I noticed B+B even has a 10% off coupon that works for batteries right now. Those are "Duracell" branded (may be EastPenn?). Good to know about the "economy" model batteries. (Would be curious if they were...

Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. Don't discounts/coupons apply to auto batteries any more?

5 years since last battery, so far so good, but decided to take a peek at current costs. Ordered online for pickup last time. With coupon got 20% off and (and even a few more % with a credit-card offer) - closer to Walmart or Club price territory. So head over to Autozone and AdvanceAuto...

Appreciate the comp-chart link (didn't catch that one at the website), and thanks for the clarifying discussion.

comments, differences? - Techron High Mileage vs Techron Concentrate Plus Complete, Fuel System Cleaners

Was going to pick up Techron on the BOGO sale, and see online a new (to me) High Mileage Fuel System Cleaner. Any comments? Just marketing difference? Detail: Notoriously useless MSDSs show a change from N,N'-di-sec-butyl-p-phenylenediamine to Trade Secret for the <1% component (so, could be...

Recommend a cutter for plastic repair "hot" staples (steel wire 0.6-0.8mm)?

The mystery of search algorithms... The title words for that listing are nearly identical to one of the search times used, but was not in the results. Also, had no idea there were many different names for this type of cutting tool.

Recommend a cutter for plastic repair "hot" staples (steel wire 0.6-0.8mm)?

Hmmm. Had not used bolt cutter as a search term. Looks like there might even be a type for closer to surface cuts like this example that came up at McMaster-Carr.

Recommend a cutter for plastic repair "hot" staples (steel wire 0.6-0.8mm)?

Thanks for the comments. Tool style is probably not too important, but shouldn't be too big, as have been using in smaller spaces. At the bottom is a pic as requested. Asking here because have just been searching the web blindly. Found I'm using an inexpensive plastic repair kit more often -...

Recommend a cutter for plastic repair "hot" staples (steel wire 0.6-0.8mm)?

Is there any (not-too-expensive) flush-to-surface cutter for 0.8mm hard wire (steel) staples? Ideally, the extensions left sticking out after the repair, should be cut close as possible to the plastic surface. The staples are represented as steel at 0.6-0.8mm. Soldering/PCB-work cutters are...

Curious. Do you check water/electrolyte in "maintenance-free" wet cell/flooded lead-acid batteries?

Appreciate the comments. Next time do a full charge, guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look. (and just noticed that Johnson Controls is now "Clarios, Powering Today, Into Tomorrow, as One of the 2023 World's Most Ethical Companies®")

Curious. Do you check water/electrolyte in "maintenance-free" wet cell/flooded lead-acid batteries?

Know the question is not relevant to those who prefer to view batteries as a time-based "consumable" and just change then periodically (like oil). But can't imagine any negatives to checking - once past warranty. Current battery still working well at four years. An Autocraft Gold which looks...

    Alkaline batteries leaking

Funny seeing this old thread is alive again - the day after finding about a third of the cells in an *unopened* pack of "2031" alkaline Ray-O-Vacs had leaked. Not sure any brand is that great, nowadays. Just don't know if after the Hg-ban - when manufacturers started advertising 100%...

Comments on Falken Azenis FK460 A/S vs Kumho Ecsta PA51 All-Season Tire?

Thanks for the quick notes. He wasn't specifically looking UHP, but that's what the two known-name brands in stock locally turned out to be - in his target price range. (Not sure if numbers can be mentioned at BITOG.) I'll pass on the suggestions if he's willing to delay a bit. Don't think he...

Comments on Falken Azenis FK460 A/S vs Kumho Ecsta PA51 All-Season Tire?

Local has the Falken and Kumho in stock in correct size now, but can get Toyo Extensa HP II from sister shop. (All same price range.) Couldn't find out as much on the FK460 as it appears to be a newer model (guess replacing 450). They are all listed as UHP all season. Older daily driver 2007...

Opinions? Tires for 2004 Acura TSX. 60 mi hwy, 20 mi city per month NYC area climate

Appreciate the personal experiences with your tires. > how is your maintenance situation otherwise? Battery, brakes, oil changes, all OK. New starter last year. Nothing recent except for a stolen catalytic converter. > make it a weekend fun trip :-) Hmmm.

Opinions? Tires for 2004 Acura TSX. 60 mi hwy, 20 mi city per month NYC area climate

Whoo... fast commentary, thanks. My mechanic had noted he could get some used "that will fit." But don't want to go that way. Even though the car is old, it's not a beater. Looking at lower treadlife? Yes, a good performing tire made economical by low treadlife would be great - will look but...

Opinions? Tires for 2004 Acura TSX. 60 mi hwy, 20 mi city per month NYC area climate

BITOGers aren't usually shy with opinions, so asking for thoughts on tires for a less than 1000mi/yr older vehicle (2004 TSX). Likely to continue current monthly 60 mi hwy, 20 mi in city, and driving may occasionally coincide with rain, and even rarely snow (or at least after-snow salty slush)...
