VW 508 spec. What's so special about it?

I just ordered a case of Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0w30. Almost half the price of Mobil ESP and the spec is 504. Close enough.

VW 508 spec. What's so special about it?

$6? Mobil 1 ESP is $13.69 per quart at Napa right now. That's insane

VW 508 spec. What's so special about it?

Can anyone tell me what is so different about this oil compared to a regular full synthetic oil of the same weight and viscosity? I'm getting tired of chasing down the 508 spec stuff for my wife's 2019 Tiguan. Is it a legit difference or just snake oil to please the politicians?

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

I'd bet you'd still be saying that at 200K +/- miles. Hell, some VW mechanics suggest and even still put 5w-40 in these cars so you can't convince me that it's that big of a deal.

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

So? I spend half the price on an oil change with the same amount of problems as people who use the suggested oil. None.

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

Hmmm, best selling SUV in its category. Probably for good reasons

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

I'd be curious to know if anyone else on here has been running non-508 oil in a VW with no problems. I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary in the oil pan with mine after a change. Runs great, sounds great, no mpg loss compared to the first 10K.

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

So I shouldn't trust what I currently use? Will my engine eventually grenade? It won't last 200K +/- miles? It just seems crazy to me that a car manufacturer can't trust their own engine if the consumer doesn't use ONE VERY SPECIFIC type of oil. Hard to believe that a specified oil is so magical.

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

Brand A of 0W-20 might have different additives than brand B of 0W-20. My point is, no brand of similar viscosity oil is the EXACT same oil of a different brand. Am I wrong?

"The performance charts are not a literal translation of a performance specification and should not be used as a replacement for evaluating engine oil performance in accordance with the relevant vehicle manufacturer’s requirements." A graph is a nice tool and all, but what about the specifics...

VW 508.00 Does it really matter?

My wife's car is a 2019 Tiguan SEL R-Line with about 50K miles on it. Did a few oil changes myself using Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 GF6 and a Wix filter every time at 7,500 intervals. Zero problems. No mpg loss, a slight increase if anything. 24.3 extended period mpg.
