Jeep 4.0 sounds like Mercedes diesel at idle

Hey all, I have a 97 XJ with 220,000 miles. I bought it at 184,000. I first used the Farm & Ranch stores MAG1 10w-30 with Auto-RX through two clean & rinse cycles, changed the head gasket and resealed the bottom end, and then used Shell Rotella T5 10w-30 twice at short intervals. I wanted to...

Mobil 1 0w-40 vs German Castrol GC 0w-30

I am comparing these two oils and cannot find a thread that already summarizes the differences. From what I have read they are comparable. In my experience GC 0w-30 is shear stable. It makes it 10,000 miles in my Jeep 4.0 and stays in grade. I have read that Mobil 1 0w-40 shears down until it is...

    Mobil 1 10w-30 or Mobil 1 0w-40

My first pick is Truck & SUV 5w-40 but its not easily available. If I was going to stay with Mobil 1, should I switch to their 10w-30 or their 0w-40. I use it in gas engines that like xw-30 or xw-40. Regards, Brian

2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5 NA recommendation

Hey all, I bought a 2004 Impreza with a 2.5L N/A engine and 107Kmi. I started off with Auto-RX an Castrol GTX 10w-30. I'm coming to the end of the 'rinse cycle'. I am thinking of using GC 0w-30, Mobil Delvac 5w-40, Amsoil 0w-30/5w-30/10w-30/15w-40. I am wondering what oil has the best results...

2000 VW Jetta 53000 miles on oil with Amsoil bypass

Below are all the results of oil analysis from my 2000 VW Jetta TDI. The highlight of this are the 53,000 miles I used Amsoil Series 3000 5w-30 (HDD) with an Amsoil BMK-11 bypass filter, between 46,000 and 99,000 miles. The car was chipped. Notice how quickly I piled on the miles on this car...

    2006 Toyota 4.0 V-6

Hello, A buddy of mine just bought a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with the 4.0 V-6. According to his owner's manual he is to use 5w-30 or lose warranty. The owner's manual says 10w-30 may be used in an emergency, but it should be changed out to 5w-30 as soon as possible. Why are they putting this in the...

    '93 Dodge Cummins 4x4 thoughts

I am thinking of using Mobilube SHC 80w-140 in the Dana 60, Dana 70, and NP 205 transfer case. The distributor sells it significantly cheaper than Mobil 1 LS 75w-140. Any reason to use one or the other? The axles are non LSD 3.54. The transfer case also allows motor oil SAE 30 or SAE 50...

Honda manual trans & motorcycle oil?

I have not read about anyone trying motorcycle oil in the transmission. When I talked to TooSlick he seemed to think it would be a worthwhile test. I am curious if anyone here has tried Mobil 10w-40 motorcycle oil? If not, I guess I will be the first! -brain

    1988 Honda Accord & GC 0w-30 7100 miles

1988 Honda Accord LX w/ 227Kmi. This car is new to me and I do not know much of the service history. I bought it from a government impound lot, DUI confiscation (so it was running at time of impound). Sat for about 35 days before I took ownership. Air filter was in trunk at time of purchase, but...

I use Mobil 1 75w-140 in the front and rear axles of my '01 Cherokee. 3.55's, Dana 30 and Dana 35c. The service manual specifies "75w-140 SYNTHETIC" for severe service. -brian

    Brake cleaner overysray in oil

While I was cleaning off the side of my Honda Accord motor with brake cleaner to get rid of oily residue from leaky cam and front crank seals, some of the overspray got into the valvetrain and probably some into the oil pan. Its not like I emptied a can of brake claner cleaning up side of the...

    Honda manual transmission fluid

Anyone using an equivalent to the Honda MTF that they think is better than Honda's fluid? My application is a 1988 Accord LX w/ 223Kmi. No known transaxle problems but no known service history either. Got the car a few thousand miles ago. -brian

Honda oil filters, 1999 vs 2005

I have 12 Honda oil filters that I purchased in 1999 when I had two Hondas. I sold the Hondas, but kept the filters knowing that one day I'd have another Honda. Now I do. Am I'm wondering if the filters available today are better or worse than they were in 1999? I don't expect it to matter much...

    GC specs

Can someone tell me the "agreed" specs on GC 0w-30 ? I'm asking rather than searching because sometimes things in previous posts are determiend to be incorrect and I might miss the most recent post with correct information. Someone who has been following this issue will surely know? Now on...

    GC manufacturing codes

I have seen GC with product batches 02, 03, 04 so I'm wondering if someone can summarize how much iron, etc was in the different batches? I'm asking because I heard they cleaned out the pipes at some point Thanks, Brian
