How long can I safely run this oil/filter combo?

Of course they recommend a year. Its not a must... The oil doesn't have feelings or know if its been in there 20 days or 20 months. They sell 5x as much in 5 years if you change it. No skin off their tail to recommend that,

Use of 5W-40 in a gas direct injection car prone to intake valve deposit

I haven't heard of a car call for 40 for decades. What weight does it say on the cap?

1939 Dodge Inline Six Flathead Truck Oil

We seem to think, we as in I mostly I guess and same with a lot of working mechanics think all this doesnt amount to much iun the grand scheme of things. I love extended changes, I hate doing oil and points and plugs. I was glad to see it go and wish I would have jumped on FI a little sooner...

1939 Dodge Inline Six Flathead Truck Oil

They nuthin wrong with the 15/40 you are using. I might drive it till it needed a valve job. That is not that much a chore and likely never need it if it is working. Chances if it works ok today it will work ok tomorrow. I know guys restore and get old tractors and engines running, done it...

1939 Dodge Inline Six Flathead Truck Oil

Gotta agree, pour some wet stuff in, ride like the wind. I got to admit I fuss with this a little but really cause its so easy today. Used to be committed to barrels but now buy off the sheld and a few jugs. One of the most interesting things I gonna follow up from here is price. But, want too...

1939 Dodge Inline Six Flathead Truck Oil

If it's relatively clean would put a modern oil and new Wix filter in it and forget it, add some if it was needed.

Mustang 5.0 went 50,000+ miles with no oil change, still runs

Plenty of damage by DIY types. Not limited to quick lubes. They not all dopes, got a bud manage one for a while and a smart guy. But certainly think the damage to air filters a reality. Some of the housings are real fussy and can seem right or tite and not installed correctly. Took over service...

Changing Oil Manufacturers Regularly Cause Harm?

Having said that our own experience over decades has brought us to some conclusions which are similar to mfg as it moves on. While it's TRUE there are some problematic engines for every one there are 99+ that can go 3x oci and not know the difference and oil has got so much better especially...

Changing Oil Manufacturers Regularly Cause Harm?

Instead of being po might take this as a bit of learning opportunity. Not that I take that advice well either but when I have got past it found I got some good help from net guys. Had this recent experience myself where i was tempted to say Foff but guy was an expert and come back and help me...

Changing Oil Manufacturers Regularly Cause Harm?

I don't know anyone personally here and my comments really not particularly personal attacks but I looked in here 10 years ago, maybe more. I read many of the articles and a few of the threads but the general education doesn't have seemed to have went very far while the posts have went 10x with...

Changing Oil Manufacturers Regularly Cause Harm?

A bit of the point is that we tended to think the net and all the possible info would make us smarter and it has had the opposite effect. Similar to politics really in some sense. We can read 5 minutes and become an expert on any issue, make anything simple complicated and make the complicated...

Changing Oil Manufacturers Regularly Cause Harm?

This is a good site with a lot of real good info in some sense but proves we can now ultimately do so more much "research" in today's world and know less than when we started.

Best Way To Desludge This New-To-Me Dodge Dakota w/4.7L V8?

It's not operable for other reasons and we stuck on some concept of perfect engine cleaning when there probably a dozen other things gonna stop it b4 that becomes a problem. Good time to check PCV and intake manifold gasket. That stuff plugging and leaking is often cause for puke in the oil.

Mustang 5.0 went 50,000+ miles with no oil change, still runs

On some level it might not make much difference to do thousand in maint to get a few hundred more for it at a trade. Is that really that hard to grasp? The difference in condition often isn't a huge spread in value. I appraised a car the other day, 4900 in poor and 5500 in excellent. Got 50$ or...
