Yes, all signs were pointing to replacement with that (current) Motul product. Perhaps it
is not cost effective to have these mfr specific oils, esp for the aftermarket ?
For now, I still have many miles left on my (last) VAG-spec oil fill....

I agree, very thorough article. I have been using Motul 5W-40 in my Mark I/8N TT3.2 for years, most recently the VAG-specific
type. A quick look at the Motul website shows that oil to be no longer listed in their Specific line! If so, I will change to the 8100 X-CESS (gen2), which has approvals...
As a follow-up to this saga, went on ebay, are various vendors selling NOS 12626224's, for various prices.
Bought three of them for less than $10 each, including shipping. So, at least next three oil changes will still
be ACDelco....
Here is a pic of an older version of the UPF48R from 2012--u can see the bypass valve integrated into the metal end cap. Members of the Corvette Forum (source of the pic) seemed to think it was rubber vs. black plastic.

Some feel the hard plastic ‘button’ provides less of a seal against its metal seat ( on the retention spring) than the rubber valve previously integrated into the metal end cap.
Also, exploded views of these filters don’t
provide a good picture of how the retention
