Dodge Viper Dana 44 Rear - Pinion bearing going?

Diagnosed a bearing noise to the pinion bearing and to get a second opinion pulled an oil sample. Unfortunately seems inconclusive but perhaps given the fact that I caught it early maybe better this way. Any opinions as to whether this UOA helps confirm or deny? Thanks

    Mobil1, 0-40 SM, 4851 miles, Chrysler Town&Country

78,414 miles on an all wheel drive Chrysler Town & Country minivan. 3.8 cast iron engine. First 14k miles were on dino oil, then Mobil 1 5w-30, 10w-30 and most recently 0w-40. Mobil 1 and later K&N oil filters, along with the "snake oil" filtermag. Oil filter innards looked pristine. Has...

Delvac 1, 1928 miles, Dodge Viper - Flakes in K&N

1996 Dodge Viper GTS w/ 19k miles overall. Change oil every 2k miles or so as it takes 18 ~ 24 months to get there and I don't want to run the oil longer than that. K&N oil filter with Filtermag. Have run Delvac for last 4 years or so, Mobil 1 10w-30 prior. Owned since new, never abused, never...

    Mobil 1 10w-30 w FilterMag, 1504 miles, Dodge Viper

Details: K&N Oil Filter with FilterMag oil filter magnet (1st use of both) Fram OEM style air filters (Paper & foam) Had Delvac 1 in initially, but because of a timing cover gasket replacement, dealer had to drain (at 700 miles... ) and reinstall the factory fill Mobil 1 10w-30. Mileage on oil...

    Delvac 1, 5W-40, 2002 Chrysler Town & Country 3.8 V6, 5517 miles

After 2 runs with Delvac 1 (Mobil 1 10W-30 prior) and Mobil 1 oil filters throughout, it looks like things are starting to improve. Blackstone was pretty strong on saying that the zinc level in Delvac 1 was going to put my cat at risk, just like lead in the fuel would. Was under the impression...

    Delvac 1 5w-40, 2002 Chrysler T&C 3.8L, 5871 miles

My second Delvac Experience (third pending is a 1996 Viper GTS but that won't be ready for a change until late summer). Dino from 0 ~ 14,000 miles, unknown change frequency) Mobil 1 from 14,001 till 25,000, Delvac from there. Here I'm really confused.... TBN wasted at less that 6K miles and 5...

    Delvac 1 5w-40, 1994 Ford Taurus 3.0L, 5121 miles

My first Delvac 1 experience. Perhaps not a fair test as engine is sick, i.e. eats (head gasket)and leaks (through it's third bad heater core!) about a QT of antifreeze over 2,500 miles. Engine runs strong as new, still gets 24 mpg and has 99,000 miles on it. Oil use duration was 10 months...

Idling... Why is it so bad?

I know excessive idling is bad for an engine, especially in cold temps, and know that the issues are condensation and fuel wash on the cylinders. What I don't know is why idling is any worse than driving in cold temps. Faster warmups, OK I buy that but if so, is it just that the first 10...

    Mobil1 15w-50, 1996 Dodge Viper GTS, AL V-10, 2258 miles

Am I correct in saying that my Viper engine doesn't mind the thicker oil? Last run was 15w-50 Mobil 1 super syn with Fram paper air filter and Mobil 1 oil filter. Prior was same except for OEM air filter and first analysis was K&N air, Mobil 1 oil filter and Mobil 1 10W-30 oil. Next up is...

What is the best (regardless of cost) power steering fluid?

What is the best (regardless of cost) power steering fluid? Best being longest lasting under high heat conditions. In applications where P/S fluid is required, not ATF. Thanks...

Does anyone know if there is an oversized oil filter that is an appropriate replacement for the either the Mobil M1-204 or K&N HP-2004? Thanks...

    Viscosity for dummies?

My understanding of viscosity quite weak. After using the search button a bit, it's still pretty weak so here's a few questions.... Does a 5W-40 oil for example, actually thicken as it's temperature increases or does it just not thin as much as say a 5w-30 at the same elevated temperature...

What is the proper application for 15w-50 Mobil 1?

Is there any reason to use Mobil 1 15w-50 in a low mileage engine? (summer use of course) Is it just an issue of HP and fuel mileage loss or is the oil just too thick for modern engine clearances? Thanks [ April 03, 2003, 10:35 PM: Message edited by: Ron-Indy ]

    Any thoughts on this one?

    1994 Ford Taurus, 93,000 miles 3.0 liter V6. 5w-30 SS M1 (5W-30 in winter, 10w-30 in summer) since 65,000. Unknown dino oils prior. M1 filter. Thanks... [ April 03, 2003, 10:29 PM: Message edited by: Ron-Indy ]

    Mobil 1 or Delvac 1?

While both Mobil 1 and Mobil's Delvac 1 are highly regarded oils, it seems Delvac 1 has a slight edge in the opinion polls. Given the similarity in the additive package (especially when compared to M1 15w-50) and the fact that it is moly-less (seemingly a valuable additive) why is Delvac 1...

Can Coolant Solutions Be Chemically Analyzed Like Oil?

Considering the disputes that rage over various coolant technologies, can coolant solutions be chemically analyzed for metal content like oil can? For example, if someone changed their green coolant at the same time I changed my Dexcool in the same engine / car type with similar mileage, would...

    Auto Trans Fluid Flow Question

On a Ford Taurus, if one was to drop the pan, change the filter, button things up and refill with new fluid, how long would it have to run in order to fully mix the new fluid with the old trapped fluid in that is in the torque convertor and cooler lines? Curious as to whether a 2 or 4 minute...

Is Mobil 1 ATF safe for T-56 Manual Trans?

A while back I had read that Mobil 1 ATF was not suitable for Borg Warner T-56 manual transmissions because of an incompatability with the paper lined blocker rings. Unfortunately I can now not find the source of that information. Does anyone have any data that categorically states whether...

best fluid for T56 6-speed, and what is the Dexron3 requirement?

Be careful what fluids you try as some will ruin the syncro / blocker ring friction material which is either carbon or fiber depending on year of manufacture. Mobil 1 synthetic ATF as an example. Tremac factory fills all T-56's with Dexron III except the Dodge Viper which is factory filled with...
