    Fuel Pump failure trick

Wonder if this will work. We have a geo prizm with a failed fuel pump. Unfortunately the pump is above the gas tank, but only accessible by dropping the gas tank! Would it be possible to Jerry Rig an electric fuel pump in the front engine bay before the fuel pressure regulator? Assuming that...

    AutoRX in the eye

Got AutoRx in my eye. The stuff was coming out slowly, so I squeezed the bottle and it splattered off the engine and into my eye. It didn't burn, and I did do the whole washing thing for 15min. Is this stuff carcinogenic? Thanks.

    Installing Distributor

Not sure if I removed and installed the distributor right. All I did was remove the distributor and remembering the general direction of where the rotor was pointing to. Installing, was the reverse by inserting the distributor and making sure the rotor was pointing in the same direction. I am...

How much play in a manual transmission is normal

Hi everyone. I just bought a Civic VX transmission. The gears are a lot taller, so figure it would give me better gas mileage if even my current transmission would go out. The owner said he bought with the engine with 100K, and currently using the engine, but kept his old transmission since it...

    Advance Ignition to run cleaner

Could I adjust the timing slightly advance to so that the engine runs hotter/cleaner? I know one must use Premium after advancing the timing. Is there anything I have to worry about doing this? Does it lower the life of the engine? I assume I should get better gas mileage as well? Run Colder...

    Pressure Plate symtpoms Clutch

Hello, I purchased my del sol from a cheapo dealer that said the clutch was replaced. However I suspect that's all he replaced was the friction disc. The transmission seems generally noisy to some degree, no major rattling like an input/release bearing and no grinding. I noticed that the...

should you start with the lightest oil then heavier

I've been using GC 0w30 for about 10K now from 25K-35K, I know that GC is like a high 30 weight oil. Engine is a 2000 Camry LE 5sfe 4cyl 2.2L I was thinking, should I have started with the lightest oil like a M1 5w30, and then move up to a heavier weight? If I start with a heavier weight...

What to use to clean piston top till I see metal

It really erks me to see black carbon deposit on the top of the piston, like having toe jam. Is there a way (without removing the head), to clean the piston tops. I read forums about soaking with LC, Neutra 131, Seafoam, but I have a feeling this won't clean all the carbon out. Currently, i...

    Gear Ratio and engine wear

Was wondering whether I should mess around with my car's gear ratio. I'm pretty sure the mfgs have already done the R&D to make the ratio where there's a balance between gas mileage and usable power. Now my question is what ratio will make the car last longer? For example. My civic hits...

    Wider tires quieter?

Generally are wider tires quieter? I noticed that Lexus LS430's and BMW 7-series have super wide tires...or is it because they are heavy and wide.

    RL MT90 vs MTL

Just curious if using a thicker oil MT90 in a older transmission that calls for MTL (Civic 93' 5 speed). When I first got the car 126K, the gear would grind from 4th - 5th at rpms above 4K. I switched out the oil which looked like 10w30 to MT90 and after a couple hundred miles it went away...

    Valve tick maybe?

Hi, I have a del sol civic engine and I thought it was a valve tick. I adjusted the valves, and heard no difference. The tick is suttle at idle, and gets higher up to 2K rpms, and then goes away. I don't see any effect on gas mileage and I have been driving this way for at least 15K. Any...

How often do I need to run my car to keep it healthy

Hey everyone, I have a 4cylinder 30K 5sfe camry. Drive it every weekend mostly 120mi trip on the highway or at least a 10mi highway trip. Do I need to make sure the car runs everyweek or can I keep it sitting outside and run it well once every 2 weeks. Just curious at what point a car sits...

    transmission coolers

Would adding a transmission on a camry be benificial? I won't be doing any hauling, but I guess having cooler ATF oil would keep things running longer. Car has 32K on it, I notice that it doesn't shift as smooth as one that has like 100K. Is it because, a more broken in transmission has already...

is dino enough to be sludge resistant? What happened here

Looks like someone that changed their oil between 3-4K still wasn't good enough to stop the sludge prone 5sfe toyota camry engine. http://groups.msn.com/ToyotaOwnersUniteforResolution/ownersstories.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=452&LastModified=4675419216833304158

Other alternatives for AC ie Swamp Coolers ?

I wonder if there are other alternatives out there for cars that don't have AC. Thermador used to make swamp coolers for cars, but I don't see them anymore, figure there would be other alternatives out there now besides installing an AC unit or rolling all the windows down =)

synthetic ATF in Differential good or bad

Just put in MOBIL1 synth in my Camry auto diff. Noticed that the car MAY have a noisier sound, not quite sure..maybe its just me thinking that the fluid is thinner that's causing it. Is this normal, is it bad? Shifting wize, I noticed that when I let go of the gas and step on it kinda firm the...

Proper way of bleeding the cooling system w/o overheating

Hey everyone. My 2000 Toyota Camry 5sfe seems to not like to have its coolant drained and refilled. At 15K and today 30K I did this and ran across overheating. My steps were to drain out the coolant, fill as much as possible parked in a semi inclined slope with the front up. I let the car...
