    Fuel Pump failure trick

jmacmaster: The fuelpump is actually inside the gas tank and there's not access point above it like other cars in the trunk or rear seat. I'm sure holding a 2 gallong tank in the passenger seat with a pump and line would work, probably not the safest condition =) Dropping the gas tank itself...

    Fuel Pump failure trick

Wonder if this will work. We have a geo prizm with a failed fuel pump. Unfortunately the pump is above the gas tank, but only accessible by dropping the gas tank! Would it be possible to Jerry Rig an electric fuel pump in the front engine bay before the fuel pressure regulator? Assuming that...

Washing engine-Is it safe to do?

Personally old GERMAN cars and engine washing is a bad idea. Most likely a vacuum hose is cracked somewhere and water gets in. In my case my Dad powerwashed my 300D mercedes one day and knocked a vacuum line off. That line happen to be a vacuum that shuts off the engine. But for the most part...

    AutoRX in the eye

Pablo - no problem, but I knew I was going to get some jokes =) I have a lot of plastic safety goggles from college, but it's really inconvienant to use when working on cars. It fogs up, they scratch easily. I heard the real nice dental safety glasses work well, since many of them are made of...

    AutoRX in the eye

I got throttle body cleaner in the eye once after it bounced off the throttle body and it hurt pretty bad. When pulling a hose from the TB, i didnt know it was a coolant temp hose and got coolant in my eye. That stuff seemed to stay for a bit, didnt really sting, but I couldnt definately feel...

    AutoRX in the eye

Pablo - "Got any picts?" Haha, no. But with all that eye washing, my eye was red. Which I assume was normal since you are drying out your eyes. Gary Allen - thanks, I probably will have it checked the next time I'm at the doctor. They usually put some flourescent dye in your eye and check for...

    AutoRX in the eye

Got AutoRx in my eye. The stuff was coming out slowly, so I squeezed the bottle and it splattered off the engine and into my eye. It didn't burn, and I did do the whole washing thing for 15min. Is this stuff carcinogenic? Thanks.

    Fuel Power for Honda

Comparing an Accord engine to a Civic is almost apples and oranges to me.

    New MTF

Well speaking for a 93 del sol si. I've tried 10w30 (dino), Honda MTF, RL MT90, RL MTL, and GM syncromesh Friction modified. 10w30 - did not work well at all, hard to get into first, gear grinded from 4 to 5th at rpms above 4500rpms. Honda MTF - Pretty much the same except 1st gear was better...

    Installing Distributor

Well its a DOHC engine, HOWEVER it is an 4AFE engine, and the design has one cam slaved to the other. So basically the dual cams are independant of each other.

    Installing Distributor

Kenw, I always check the timing afterwards, so i guess I should be okay. Thanks

    Installing Distributor

Not sure if I removed and installed the distributor right. All I did was remove the distributor and remembering the general direction of where the rotor was pointing to. Installing, was the reverse by inserting the distributor and making sure the rotor was pointing in the same direction. I am...

Best battery, opinons and experiences, please

My Car specs for group 35 Break down of price and power from Costco Group 35 - 550CCA $37.79 $0.068/CCA Group 34 - 660CCA $42.99 $0.065/CCA Group 34/78DC - 720CCA $58.99 $0.081/CCA Well looks like the Group 34/78DC isn't worth the money per CCA, unless the car needs it

Best battery, opinons and experiences, please

Just bought a size 35 with 550cca at Costco, Hmm looks like my original Panasonic is about the same size as group 34. Should I have gotten that? I think the group 34 battery had 650cca or something. I wonder if the alternator has to work harder to keep the battery charged with a higher capacity?

Best battery, opinons and experiences, please

Wow my 2000 camry battery is at 12.07 volts today, I noticed it has been cranking slow for the last 2 weeks. I drive the car like once every 2-3weeks. It's the original Panasonic Factory Battery. I guess 4yrs been ok.

    RL MT90 vs MTL

Drained the MTL a couple days ago with about 2,000miles on the oil and saw some shavings, not a lot, about 2 pinches. Changed to GM Syncromesh Friction Modified oil, and haven't seen a significant difference. 1st seems a bit easier and all the other gears seems a bit smoother.

Seafoam - It worked for me! (Pics inside!)

Forgot to add that my Engine Light turned on. I assume its because the brake booster vacuum line was unlplugged, so I just disconnected the battery for a bit and connected it and the Engine light was gone.

Seafoam - It worked for me! (Pics inside!)

Just used about 3/5th can of Seafoam in my del sol. While slowly vacuuming seafoam into the engine through the brake booster line, I noticed a good bloom of smoke coming from the back. I shut the car off and waited five minutes, idle for about 30sec and took off with a puff of smoke, but it was...
