    Low tension rings

I read many comments stating "low-tension rings" are responsible for oil consumption. But my 2018 Dynamic Force Toyota engine has low-tension rings and stays right on the Full mark on the dipstick, even when I ran it 11,000 miles during an OCI (HPL 0w-20). (I usually only run it about 5000 miles...

Valve cover gasket replacement 2014 Accord

Just get the Mahle or other OEM gasket and have no problems. I had an "Ultra-Power" gasket that wouldn't stay in the grooves of the cover...what a waste of time to try and make that work. The Mahle was snug and perfect. The exhaust valves on Cylinder 1 were a bit snug, so, loosened those up 1/8...

HPL Euro 0w20: run it in a BMW B48, or in 2014 Accord?

I have asked HPL three times over the past few weeks, with no response. So, I thought I'd ask the group. I bought the HPL Euro 0w20 to put in my Mini JCW engine (a BMW B48), but, with no response from HPL that this is acceptable to be used in this engine, I'm thinking of just putting it in an...

2019 Mini Countryman JCW All4 with Pennzoil Euro LX 0w30 at 5000 miles

Calcium as a bit higher and Magnesium a bit lower than oils that are supposed to be preventing LSPI, and this oil doesn't have the BMW approval for my engine, but, it seems to be doing a fine job.

BMW LL 17FE+ 0W20 mixed with Redline LL 04 rated OW30

To be used in the BMW B48 Engine in a 2019 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works...anything about the chemistry of these two oils that would possibly cause issues when used as a mixture? Cannot find any BMW LL 04 oil, but, want the low SAPs and higher HTHS than the straight LL 17 FE+ 0W20. Thanks in...

    New Ford 2.5l 4 Cylinder

Does anyone know what weight oil Ford is specifying for this new engine? I know they had a production delay for this engine for some reason, or I'd just stop buy a dealership, pop the hood, and look on the filler cap. Thanks.

Valve lash adjuster "tick" and ARX

4.6 Modular with 66,832 miles...just started a hot idle tick. Ford dealership mechanic says it's valve lash adjuster, and it's no big deal. However, I don't like it! MPG is great, runs great, UOA's great. I decided to try ARX. I'll have the initial 2500 miles done in a couple of weeks...will...

    gramp Marquis Transmission care

I think I got this idea from UnDummy...I did a recommended flush of the transmission at 30K miles with Motorcraft Mercon V. Then, I went home and die a pan drop and clean, where I put 4 quarts of Mobil 1 ATF Multi-vehicle, with a Mercon V spec. Then, every 10K miles, I've been draining about 2...

Four quarts PP 5w20, 2 quarts PP 5w30. No make-up oil added. "you've run this oil more than 10,000 miles, and wear is as low as it has ever been....The oil could actually have been run longer. Impressive!" 10,171 on oil, 49,533 on engine. Motorcraft FL820S filter. Al 2 Chromium 1 Iron 9 Cu 3...

    AmSoil mixture in Subaru Differential

Put the spec'd 75-90 gear lube in the rear differential of my Subaru, used AmSoil Severe Gear. I noticed it whined more than what was in it before. No big deal, just a little more whine on light accelleration that was noticeable from 25-45 mph. During a discussion with someone about viscosity, I...

mixing ATF's as benign as mixing oils?

Pan drop on an 04 Grand Marquis with 39000 miles, specs Mercon V. Only gets out 4 quarts out of 12-14. No problem with adding Mobil 1 Mercon V synthetic, is there? Did a test-run down the highway, couldn't tell any difference. I plan on extracting, replacing 3-4 quarts every 7500-10000 miles...

AmSoil Severe Gear 75=90, and 75-140

Whining rear differential on a Subaru...very common. Dad-gum but AmSoil 75-90 quietened it significantly. So significantly, my 5 year old child noticed it. The fluid I drained was Specialty Formulations, and there was almost zero paste on the magnetic plug after 20,000 miles, so, I don't think...

    '04 4.6l Ford, Motorcraft 5-20, 3592 miles

First UOA on '04 Grand Marquis with 32819 miles, 3592 on oil, Motorcraft 820S filter, I have to take a service advisor's word that it was Motorcraft 5-20 semi-synthetic, as I bought this car off a lot, and it was serviced prior to my ownership. If I didn't put down a value, it was Zero: Al 2...

    Measuring Coolant mixture

I have a 30 year old, "Five Floating Balls" syringe-type of anti-freeze temperature estimator. Any reason this isn't still accurate to use to judge the anti-freeze protection point? Does it matter if the coolant is ethylene or propylene glycol? It's been too long since I had chemistry class, I...

    4.6 Ford...surely longer than 5000 OCI!

Bought a used 04 Grand Marquis to use as a highway cruiser only. 29,500 miles on it. Ford recommends 5000 OCI. Surely using Pennzoil Platinum and highway only, 7500 would be well within reason to get at least 250,000 miles out of this engine, wouldn't it? I drive about 50,000 miles per year, 98%...

    04 Grand Marquis, first changes

Bought an 04 with 29,000 miles, any tricks to the ATF/filter change? Mercon V is the spec...thought I'd use it this time, then change to AmSoil? PS specs Mercon, and states several times that Mercon and Mercon V not be mixed....seems a bit weird to me, but, I'll abide by the rules. Differential...

Considering Crown Vic, '03 with 68000 miles

One owner, meticulous care rendered during it's garage-sheltered life. He traded for a new Crown Vic. I've read where some of these cars had a bad alternator, and some have had a fuel pump/sender go bad. Otherwise, anything to look out for? I plan to use it to drive highway about 50,000 miles...

    2007 Subaru 2.5 , PP 5-30, 7389 miles, 38668 total

BORING! This will be my last Subaru UOA until I get out of the powertrain warranty, as I'll probably go 10000 miles on an oil fill, based on the boring UOA's at about 7500. If I don't fill in a value...it was ZERO. Aluminum 2 Iron 5 Copper 2 Lead 3 Moly 46 Boron 15 Silicon 15 (really dusty...
