Why not just run a Euro oil?

VQ’s can pretty hard on oil or so I’ve read. I’ve had good success running euro oils (QS and Mobil euro oils) in my Pathfinder and Xterra with the VQ40.

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Mobil 1 5w30 EP and a M1-110 filter for the 05 Xterra. Previously had Valvoline 5w30 EP and a M1-110 filter on it.

    22 and newer Nissan Frontiers

I had a 22’ S model for a year. Ran 0W20 in it. No issues, obviously. I don’t think you’ll have any issues at all. If your under warranty run 0W20, then switch to a thicker grade if you want after warranty ends. The VQ engines are pretty stout regardless.

Detailed the exterior of my Civic Type R

Megs Hyper dressing is expensive at first sight, but then I see all the dilution ratios you can do and it seems like a great product and cost effective. They have RTU versions of it at my autozone.

    2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5, V6

A 22-present Frontier would probably be a better option if ride quality and seat comfort are important. I owned a 22’ for a year and found it to be pretty comfortable on long trips. The 3.8 V6 has plenty of punch. It beats the brakes off the 3.5 V6.

    2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5, V6

+1 on the 4Runner, unless you need a truck. I’ve only driven a 3rd gen once. It was a pool truck that was being serviced at a shop I worked at. The seat was wet and it was a 2.7 4 cylinder but it rode pretty good and the seats didn’t bother me after all. I also had a 2nd gen Tacoma with the 4.0...

Anyone purchased from Z1 off-road? Oil

Z1 sells quality products. I’ve bought a few things from them for my Nissan trucks over the years.

Pick one car if you had to made it last the rest of your life.

A 2nd gen Tacoma with the 4.0 V6. 🙂 or a Nissan truck or body on frame SUV with the 4.0 V6. I have more experience with Nissan in general having owned a Pathfinder, Frontier, and currently Xterra. But also a 13’ Tacoma. Overall I’d probably choose a Tacoma.

When is an automatic car wash the cleanest?

Foam, rinse, foam and then follow through with contact wash. This is what Yvan Lacroix from DIY says. You could also do a rinse less wash too if the car isn’t too soiled. ONR, Wolfgang, Absolute are all good rinse less wash products.

Wish we got the HiLux in the U.S.

I think they still use the 2.7 I4. They used to have the 4.0 V6 that the Tacoma used for a long time.

can u get a reliable used car for under $3k anymore?

I picked up a $3,600 05’ Nissan Xterra with 196,000 miles. Cosmetically it’s not pretty, and there are a few quirks and issues with them if you know what to look for. Having said that I’ve had the front end replaced and valve covers done. I change my own fluids. It’s been great. No coolant...

Picked up some ONR (Optimum No Rinse), Wolfgang Uber rinse less, and Ultima waterless wash. ONR is my favorite currently. I use it for everything.

I’ve been meaning to try Jay Leno’s stuff. The Lucas Slick Mist smells great. I bought their Lucas slick mist detailing kit for about 30$ at a specialty performance store. Pricy but I wanted try them out.

    Current longest lasting wax?

I live in FL as well. Optimum Spray wax and Meguiars Xpress Spray wax are good choices for toppers. Optimum car wax says it can protect for 5 months. Meguiars always beads up my car for weeks on end but I don’t keep track because I constantly apply it every wash. Those 2 are my favorite. But the...

Looking for a commuter car that is fuel efficient, reliable, and low priced.

I’d be weary on a Toyota 4 cylinder from 07’-11’ they tended to burn oil because of the faulty rings. The 3.5 V6 doesn’t have a lot of issues from that era compared to the 2.5. Can’t go wrong with older Camrys and Corolla’s either. Same thing with Honda.

frame flex with floor jack normal?

Tacoma’s have always had flexy frames thanks to the C-channel design. The new ones are fully boxed. They should flex somewhat less.

What are you working on today?

I added some AC Pro refrigerant in my Xterra today. The AC Compressor itself is leaking, but I’ve been monitoring it. Only recently did it start blowing luke warm air though. I’m in FL, so A/C is nice to have. 😅 if it buys me a few months I’m okay with that. Didn’t have to use the whole can.

What are you working on today?

Changed out the coil packs and spark plugs out of my 200k Xterra, kind of a pain because you have to remove the intake manifold. I also drained the rear diff.
