How much weight (Ounces) should it take

If the tire is out of round when it is mounted on the rim, wheel balancing won't make it run smooth. When mounting the tire, it is important to match the high spot of the tire with the low spot of the rim. It doesn't matter about matching heavy spots and light spots because wheel weights...

    help! Spacers for dummies...

If the wheel bolts are too long they can damage the inside of the brake hub. However, i'm guessing that a 96 E300D has discs all round. I've got some MB wheel bolts and they are 12mm diameter x 1.5mm pitch. They are 40mm long measured from the bolt seat. Mercedes uses a radius-shaped (aka...

    help! Spacers for dummies...

The wheel bolts need to go in about 8 turns. Anywhere between about 6.5 turns and 10 turns should be ok though. How many turns are they going in?

mounting tires myself with the $40 harbor freight changer

If you use this tire changer with alloy wheels i would suggest that you don't use the metal spider that you can see in the top picture. This is likely to mark the alloy wheel. Instead, i would machine up a metal bush/spacer piece to fit in the wheels center bore. You really need to be well...

mounting tires myself with the $40 harbor freight changer

I use that tire changer with very short 9" tire levers. I've never used the long 36" tire lever that came with it. When i put the tire on, i lubricate both tire beads on just the inside edges with washing up liquid applied with a dry brush. Make sure no water is used. Getting the inside bead...

    help! Spacers for dummies...

215/55 tires only need a 6.5" rim. 8" rims are too wide and aren't a recommended size. A 7.5" rim is ideal for a 245/50 tire.

    02-06 Toyota Camry Owners--Larger Tires?

A 215/60R16 tire has a 6.0% bigger outside diameter than a 205/60R15 tire. I guess the gearing of the SE Camry and the LE Camry takes this into account. You wouldn't want to interchange these two tires as the difference is too great!

    02-06 Toyota Camry Owners--Larger Tires?

Do you mean 205/60R16? 15" seems rather small!

    02-06 Toyota Camry Owners--Larger Tires?

225/55R16 tyres might be worth considering. However, they would lower the gearing by 1.6% compared to 215/60R16 tyres.

    Dunlop Winter Sport M3

Did you change the offset of your rims when you went from 17" to 16"? If the 17" rims are 9.5" wide and the 16" rims are 7" wide, I guess you could reduce the offset by 32mm. For example, going from a 56mm offset to a 24mm offset. This way the outside of the rims stay in the same place, and you...

The best Budget Tires out there?

I know the problem. Manufacturers now fitting big brakes so us softies can't fit our comfy high profile tyres.

The best Budget Tires out there?

I prefer 195/65R15 to 205/55R16 as the ride is more comfy. However, 205/55R16 works well on the front of a Porsche 911. Just remember to fit a wider 225/50R16 or 245/45R16 on the back!

    Wheel Size and Fuel Mileage

205/65R15 is a good size for comfort and economy. If the 16" tires are 205/60R16 then that's worth considering, but 225/55R16 is starting to get big and heavy!

The best Budget Tires out there?

The best way to get budget tires is to choose a low cost tire size. This way even the premium makes become good value! PS. I have never heard of a 185/50R15 tire size. Surely some mistake? [ October 14, 2005, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: smartboost ]

    Will a P265/70 16 "look" noticeably

It won't have the same visual impact as going up 20mm in a smaller size. For example going from a 165 to a 185 tyre width.
