how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

ahh gotcha thanks that makes sense, however could we also make a case that for example maybe the thicker oil is too thick to go into places that the thinner oil could go into before? like maybe some really tight clearences? if so, then would we really know which oil is 'better'? because for...

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

ok i guess this topic is getting very technical for a noobie like me. I guess I got my answer and it makes total sense in the regards that someone said how a specific vehicle is prescriped 5w30 in europe but 5w20 in USA, therefore obvs the manufacturer believes 5w30 provides more protection for...

Does oil weight in the winter make any difference once engine is at operating temp?

example a 0W20 will flow better during cold startup and winters then a 5w20. at operating temp they would perform the same. only diff is the cold temp viscosity. 0w would be thinner then 5w which would be thinner then 10w

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

Oh yeah that makes sense and in that case I completely agree with it too! However is that even the case for many vehicles? For example my 2006 Mazda 2.3L seems to be the same across the board unless I’m looking in the wrong places

Krown vs Penetroil vs other competitors for rust proofing?

Thanks for all the replies! I don’t mind spending the $140 on krown or $180 on the one local. Just wondering if any of the products are noticeably better then the others because for example if one lasts longer then I would for sure prefer to try that one

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

Thanks for the input! So do you go by the belief that a w30 would provide more protection and cars need thicker oil? Or you mean that the difference is probably negligible in engine life and just to do what you feel as in if you think a thicker oil is better then run w30 if not then w20 thanks!

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

Thanks for the input!! Yeah I think I’m going to switch to 5w20 in the summer cuz we do get plenty hot and then back to 0w when we get super cold in the winter. For your older cars are you changing the second value as in the one after the w? Or the first? cuz the first makes sense to me cuz...

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

oh yeah that’s fair! I completely understand changing the first number of the oil cuz that’s more dependent on where we will. For example if we live in a super cold place then 0w is good. If super hot then obvs 10w is good too. However I just don’t understand tinkering with the second number...

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

ahaha yeah I spent 20-30 mins researching on these boards but I couldn’t really find a definite answer. All I would read about is people saying “I run thicker because ...” etc etc. but I could never find any proof or evidence

how come so many people change to a thicker oil or think there oil is too thin?

Sorry to bring this up if its already been spoken about. So what I have read is that a 5w20 is usually just oem fill for most vehicles because apparently they can save about 1% of fuel economy compared to a 5w30 oil and that big difference across there entire fleet results in meeting the...

Krown vs Penetroil vs other competitors for rust proofing?

I recently picked up a 2006 mazda 3 hatchback, i also want to add that i live in canada. We have long winters here and "The city uses several products to manage the snow and ice, including a mixture of sand and salt, gravel, and magnesium chloride." The car is in decent shape and not as bad as...

Which of the top 3-4 company makes the 'most synthetic' oil?

ahh gotcha i guess i am trying to say which has the most group 4 or group 5 because i assume they all contain similar amounts of group 3? i think thats what im asking aha

Which of the top 3-4 company makes the 'most synthetic' oil?

thanks because usually here where i live you can get these oils on sale within 1-2$ of each other. so that would technically mean the mobil 1 is giving you the most quality for $ then eh? because pao is obvs more expensive then the other oils

Which of the top 3-4 company makes the 'most synthetic' oil?

sorry if this has been discussed tons of times but I am curious which of the top brand oils are considered the most synthetic as in are made of the higher quality oils? i know in the end of the day, the final product matters more compared to what base oil was used etc etc, this is just for...

Keeping an eye for coolant leak - just watch the reservoir?

thanks a ton that makes sense! so basically only really replace the water pump when it gets noticeably bad and is covering the bleed hole kinda thing. however i believe its hard for me to see the pump anyways since its hiding behind the pulley, so for my case i should just watch the coolant level?
