Just some info to add to this thread regarding the J35. Our 2023 Odyssey has had 3 oil changes so far (1k, 5k and now 10k mile marks, supertech 0W-20) I'd be curious as to what MPG others are seeing. We drove from NE Ohio to SC, over 640 miles doing 70 mph the entire trip and averaged 29.6 MPG...

Is there a maintenance schedule for that belt? Does the book specify?

Definitely not great at all. Before I sold my wife's 2016 Trax I replaced the valve cover for the second time on it. Engine looks brand new under it at 124k miles. This was taken in May of this year. 5-6k mile changes since new with all different types of synthetic.

They didn't use to. I have a 17 Malibu with the 1.5T (different engine code though) and it calls for 5w30. I believe this changed somewhere around 2019.

I just work on my personal stuff in the garage but I have a Hercules extended reach 3/8 and it's awesome for everything I've needed it for. And extra batteries are 20-25 bucks being 12v. When I have a need for a 1/4 inch drive I'm buying the non-extended reach.

You must have never tried any cordless impacts made in the past 5 years.

I know what you mean about finally getting an electric ratchet. I went with the HF Hercules 3/8 extended reach ratchet. It was absolutely amazing using it to change spark plugs and valve cover gaskets on my 04 Silverado. I could easily reach all they way to the rear of the engine.

Reading this makes me worry. I have a 17 Malibu with this engine and almost 110k miles. Oil changes every 5k with synthetic since it was new. Is there a fixed design for this vacuum pump replacement? Are there any signs that the pump is failing before it actually fails?

The AAA pump on my Simpson calls for 15w-40.

That engine is noisy no matter what you put in it. Pure garbage. My wife has one and currently trying to sell it after buying an Odyssey. Most problematic engine I've had in the 4 new cars I've owned.

I have a 10 year old Troy-Bilt with a Honda GCV160. It had some garbage or something in the carb one time, was surging. Put some seafoam in the gas and in 20 min later it was back to normal. Was my only issue with the mower ever.

I've been trying to figure out if that's still a problem. This is supposedly a gen 3 VCM engine, I guess the gen 2s had a ton of issues, like 2011-2017 ish

We haven't taken it from full to empty on highway miles yet, but in the trips that I've measured, we averaged between 26-28 mpg on the highway doing about 70 mph. I set the cruise and turn on Econ mode just to see what it can do.
