Why is rotella hated by some?

Sounds like you met two idiots. I’ve met people who told me riding a motorcycle in gear is more dangerous than regular clothes because that “nylon slides too easily and you end up hitting things”. Far more ditch diggers than neurosurgeons on this planet.

    100,000 mile countdown

Met a guy last weekend in the twisties on a Super Duke who put 120,000 miles on it. Said it was surprisingly reliable considering it was a KTM, evidently it went through a few radiators. Kept thinking maybe he was referring to Kilometers but confirmed it was miles. Sounded great too.

Since when did we have so much inflation that you could sell a vehicle for more than you paid?

I think if you hold off on buying for a little bit you’ll probably see prices drop. People are falling behind on car payments in record numbers (https://www.wsj.com/articles/more-auto-payments-are-late-exposing-cracks-in-consumer-credit-3cbc2382)...

Thickest oil grade you have run in winter, summer?

Once put in Mobil 1 15w50. It was on clearance at Walmart for practically nothing. I quickly pulled up an UAE owner’s manual for a car with the same engine and it said I could run that oil so run it I did. Normally run 0w40 Euro year round in Scottsdale 120° high never really gets below freezing.

Thoughts on this high mileage 2020 MAZDA CX-9

I recall there was a thread on some Subaru forum where a guy put a couple million miles on a CrossTrek in a short period of time and chronicalled the repairs along the way. Drawing a blank on what specifically he carried but he was a medical courier. I think he blew through the warranty mileage...

Underestimating the benefit of a Tesla from being carjacked while driving?

I think most cars with door locks and automotive glass could repel such attack. I’m sure if the attackers had a spark plug or rock then they’d be able to get through that window.

    Carfax cracking down on copycats

Probably one of those list it for a ridiculous price where no one will buy it to appease a spouse that wants it gone type of situations.

    Carfax cracking down on copycats

The guy who is selling that Jaguar is out of his mind.

Why are SAE sockets formatted in fractions?

The Apollo Lunar Module Guidance computer was done in metric just had imperial displays since that is standard in aviation. https://www.doneyles.com/LM/Tales.html

best auto parts store parking lot to do a spark plug swap?

Probably one in a more run down/industrial area. I think most of them aren’t big fans of you working in the lot unless absolutely necessary since they probably get grief from the property owners about stuff like that. If you have to it’s probably best to park away from the front of the store as...

Why are SAE sockets formatted in fractions?

That’s a good point in my professional and personal life I typically do everything in percentage format and have rarely formatted in fractions.

    Chrisfix peddling cheap ratchets.

Never buy stuff people on YouTube recommend unless it’s filmed poorly by some random guy in tube socks and basketball shorts in his garage, on his phone, and he’s got barely any other videos and <3 subscribers. YouTube influencers will peddle anything, unless you’re an outlier or getting...

Why are SAE sockets formatted in fractions?

This is totally one of those sitting on the toilet pondering life questions but it’s stuck in my head. I recently had to work on a project which required me to buy and use SAE sockets. I really only work on fairly modern cars and motorcycles which are by and large metric so never really used...

What did your last front tire cost? OUCH

You’re never going to convince this imbecile that he’s an imbecile. When someone cites their years of riding as an accreditation of their knowledge they should be placed firmly within the bucket of people to be ignored just like dudes in sweatpants and a t-shirt throwing Rossi leg dangles in the...

What did your last front tire cost? OUCH

I mean they’ve got completely different demands in comparison with a common all season car tire. Additionally in the US alone there are ~270 million registered cars and trucks in comparison to close to 10 million registered bikes on the road so there is an economies of scale. Probably a more apt...

What did your last front tire cost? OUCH

I think my whole set up for tire change costed ~$220 (balancing stand, bead breaker, tire spoons , bead lube etc) excluding the compressor (I use a $60 Walmart 3 gallon I bought like 6 years ago). I’m glad I’m only running 120/60 or 70 r17s up front (have a speedo healer can recalibrate for...

    Amazon, again.

Amazon has started down the pathway of “enshittification” or platform decay. This sort of explains why Amazon used to be great for consumers but is increasingly worse to use. https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/28/enshittification/

    Change your brake fluid

I do it at the begnning of track season and at the end. I’ve got speedbleeders, and a dual hose-reservoir collector so takes me about 5 minutes to do, those bleeders are some of the best money I’ve ever spent. I do the rear once a year but hardly use it when I’m riding on track or in the twisties.
