    My Elantra slighty burning oil

I think the only time oil consumption is related to failure is when someone runs it low on oil.... otherwise it's likely unrelated. Not the same engine, but there does seem to be a higher failure rate among most of Hyundai engines....my wife's Sonata is at the dealership getting a new engine at...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

None at all that I noticed, though i had only driven it on the recent trip to the airport a few hours away. I did hear her start it in the morning at least within a few days of the failure and it sounded fine other than a belt tensioner starting to make some noise. I was keeping a close eye on...

    Are Hyundais reliable?

They do deserve a bit of that hate, though they are far from as bad as some people make them out to be.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I can't say this was true in our case, as it's one of the ones that was babied. It has gone full throttle a couple times when I was driving but my wife doesn't. She will drive fast but she never floored it. It used zero oil up until the day it seized up at 94k. I think it's just luck of the...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I agree on the throttle mapping. I mostly hate how it gives you like 30% throttle when you press the throttle like 10%, so it's hard not to do a burnout if you're trying to pull away quickly. It sounds like a diesel mostly because of the direct injection fuel pump. Ours didn't really have any...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

Thanks. I got the wheels for free through a deal with Goodyear when I worked there. If we sold enough assurance comfortread touring tires we got a set...we sold enough for every employee to get a set but they didn't have them in 14's so I got store credit. I'm relieved her car is getting fixed...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I certainly saw plenty of examples through friends and family and the garage I used to work at before ours failed. So I was pretty well expecting this to happen eventually. One thing I've learned out of this is if you do your own oil changes, you will have to have them do an inspection for...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

Ours didn't get much full throttle, though I will admit it had plenty of power even with the automatic 6 speed and a manual would make it a lot better. It feels like a much bigger engine than a naturally aspirated 2.4. And fuel mileage is insane. The downside is reliability.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

You probably made the right move though I will say I'd be much more willing to drive her Sonata if it was a manual. I just find it not enjoyable to drive, because of the notchy steering, electric power assist, bad seats, touchy electronic throttle, etc. But at least it had a lifetime warranty on...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

This is the best I can do for a review.....just cleaned a dump of snow off and the wife remote started it, so I opened it up to turn on defrost and heated seats etc. Much nicer on the inside. Quality is much better than the Sonata. Nice feeling plastics, almost comparable to her sisters new...

Shopping for New TV 65" soon Anything beat a hisense U8H for value?- not paying 2k for OLED.

Probably because their old stuff lasts so long. Lol. We have a 15 year old 46" in the basement and then a couple other 12 year old models in the house and my father in law has a 25 year old projection TV in his basement he refused to give up. It's like going back in time watching TV on that thing.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

My wife worked from home today and she just brought it home last night. She was not feeling well and the rental car was not really discussed, other than she appreciated the heated steering wheel as we got a bit of a blizzard last night. I will find out eventually how she likes it and what the...

Hyundai Tucson 1.6T Hybrid, engine damaged before first service is due

I should be able to tell if our old heads and intake are on a new block once we get the Sonata back. I'm also curious if the starter will get replaced, as we tried cranking multiple times. My mechanic didn't believe it would be seized until we pulled the serpentine belt off and tried turning it...

Anyone using a Euro oil in older vehicles?

I run that same oil in my 2005 Silverado and 1976 350 v8 Oldsmobile. So far both run like new while the 2013 Hyundai that I stuck to thinner oils to prevent warranty issues is currently awaiting it's new engine at 94k miles.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I actually haven't driven enough comparable vehicles for my opinion to be worth anything and I don't believe I'll be on the insurance anyway in order to drive it. It's most likely going to feel cheap and uncomfortable to me compared to my Oldsmobile or even my 2005 Silverado. I also hate the...

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

I think we can take our chances with anything for the next couple weeks. Not heading out on any long trips anytime soon. Usually we take my 84 Oldsmobile on the long journeys, along with a toolbox and some spare parts. Luckily the timing of the engine failure was reasonably convenient.

Wife's 2013 Hyundai seized up today 94k miles

Update: Hyundai approved the engine. Wife is picking up rental car now. They said hopefully no more than 2 weeks until it's ready. I would have tried to talk my wife into getting rid of the Sonata if I didn't think the engine was likely to be covered by warranty. I'm not an optimistic person and...

Hyundai Tucson 1.6T Hybrid, engine damaged before first service is due

I think it was a design issue with the theta 2 (like my wife's Sonata currently seized at 94k miles) and a quality control issue with many of the other engines that are less known for problems.
