    BMW OCI - Not okay

If you plan on keeping the car for longer than 3-4 years I would recommend you change the oil earlier than the maintenance reminder. Also check your oil every 1-3K miles. Some models burn a quart per thousand miles, which is within BMW specs, models vary I have seen it with M3, 328, 335, but its...

Honda dealer ever use FULL synthetic?

You probably have to ask for it, because that is when they tell you the price doubles or triples as a result of the request.

I know many people have posted the clatter when using M1, but for me this only happens with Castrol Syntec. I never had a problem with M1.

Why not put a drain plug on an auto trans?

I have had a couple cars that have "sealed units" no tranny dipstick for fill and no drain plug. Or a possible drain plug is also the fill hole facing down. I guess they really dont want you getting in there.

Your style of post oil change clean-up

With each change I try to see how little oil I will spill, but when it comes to the differential for some reason I get it all over, no matter how many cardboard boxes or newspapers spread out. With stains all around the area I was working and even random areas far from where I was working. As...

Your style of post oil change clean-up

For wiping oil pan afterwards or anything else, drain plug, floor drips. I use the same rag or couple paper towels for all through the whole process. I wipe the pan so I can check for leaks afterwards just in case. Or if a leak develops I know I wiped that area clean on the last change...

All oils are fine with me, its usually change interval associated with the oil that lingers in my mind.

    Dealer messed up

As far as the oil I think it should be ok, but the bigger concern is the dealer. I personally would not go back there again. Doing work without permission, incorrectly documenting work orders, what else are they doing or failing to do.

    Ramps or jacks?

Used to use just ramps until I epoxy my floor. So I have had to resort to floor jack and ramps as my jack stands.

Some people just can't be helped...

Perhaps a lease vehicle? I had a coworker whose newly leased M had a case of cheap oil in the trunk. When I asked him he said his M was burning a quart per 1-1.5k miles, BMW noted it was within spec and to add oil when the indicator came on. Not wanting to buy expensive BMW oil he just dumped...

AutoRX, 24k miles BMW, Synthetic Oil

I would say a dino 2k rinse oil is ok. I have several family members and friends that own 3's 5's 7's, Mini's and at the 10-15k change mark even though its synthetic you should see how black and thick the oil gets. Not to mention that if the driver is say a mom and doesnt check the oil gets...

driving hard/high RPMs on cold engine/oil??

My dad used to do this for years on his 1989 Benz. Turn on, shift in gear and floor it. Whats worse is that on startup the car would automatically rev itself up to about 3k rpm. But the car still runs strong.

Mount St. Helens = 50 mile OCI

OK I understand this is an oil board and we talk about oil and and its effects on our motors. But with 50 mile OCI, grinding compound. One has to also think what this type of air will do to an average persons respiratory system. Forget about smoking or second hand smoke seems life expectancy...
