Wife's friend looking for a new (used) SUV.

They're better but not all fine - just had a new long block put in my 2018 Escape with the 2.0 due to coolant intrusion. The pre-2016 2.0 is an older closed deck design and pretty sold, the post-2020 2.0 is still open deck but revised to fix the issues with the 2017-2019 models

What are your thoughts on store brand motor oils?

It was for years but they refreshed the lineup I want to say 4 or 5 years ago and switched to Warren. Around the same time Kirkland oil showed up on shelves here.

What are your thoughts on store brand motor oils?

Believe it's still Highline-Warren but we only get a limited product line compared to the US - Conventional and Full Synthetic.

What kind of oil do you use?

Pennzoil Platinum when on sale or rebate Supertech Synthetic otherwise

    Post your latest oil change

2009 Ford Fusion 226000km, Pennzoil Plat 0W20 with Quaker State filter. Good for another year!

    Are you brand loyal?

I'm price driven more than anything else but if everything is equal I'm probably grabbing something made by SOPUS off the shelf. No rational reason why, just brand loyalty from all the Pennzoil rebates I guess. 😆

    Post your latest oil change

Did an oil change in the 2009 Fusion this weekend. 6 months, just under 5000km. Out and in: 4.5L Pennzoil Plat High Mileage 0W20, Motorcraft filter No oil loss or consumption on this change at all. Very impressed. Also drained and filled the transmission again, finished off my case of Beck...

Only one approval to run in all of your vehicles - which one?

D1G2 for me. Not that either of my Ford vehicles actually requires it, but the Ford specifications are harder to find and match up. And I tend to use Kirkland or Supertech unless Pennzoil is on sale for less.

Kirkland oil out of stock in your area also?

The 5W30 and 0W20 is still in stock here north of the border but price has jumped.

Oil and filter recommendation for a Mazdaspeed 6!!!

Yeah, I've got a 2009 Fusion that has a cartridge filter from that era. I think Ford switched back to spin on in 2010, maybe even mid model year in 09. But when I had to replace the filter housing, got it from the local Mazda dealer because it was way cheaper.

Oil and filter recommendation for a Mazdaspeed 6!!!

Never said it has formal approvals, just that it meets the specs. Label carries a very similar laundry list of "meets the requirements" as PP Euro. And since Warren does have some European approvals for their Mag1 brand (VW in particular comes to mind), not a stretch for them to be selling the...

Oil and filter recommendation for a Mazdaspeed 6!!!

But to answer your original question, PP 5W40 Euro would do nicely in your application. I wouldn't pick it over PP, but a budget option to keep in your back pocket is SuperTech 5W40 Euro (only available in Canada, so not many posters here would be familiar with it), $20 for 5L and meets many...

Oil and filter recommendation for a Mazdaspeed 6!!!

At Canadian retail prices, you can get four or five Mahle filters from RockAuto for the price of a Napa Platinum here!

    Your favorite winter/snow/ice tire?

The three winter tires I've had on my cars: Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 Hankook iPike RSV General Altimax Arctic 12 The Blizzaks were great on my FWD Fusion when I lived in the Ottawa area, which can be a fair bit colder than where I am now and ice was my primary concern. But that performance...

Normal valve stems in a TPMS wheel?

My winter sets on both my Fusion and Escape have no TPMS sensors. And my all season set in the Fusion, at least one of the original sensors has died and I have no desire to replace it. Right now I just drive around with the dash light on, at some point I may just disable TPMS with Forscan (in...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Got a new to me car (2018 Ford Escape, 2.0L Ecoboost) so just did my first filter and oil stockup for it. From RockAuto, since retail prices for filters here in Canada are insane: 4x Motorcraft FL910S oil filter 2x ACDelco A3626C air filter 2x Champ cabin air filter Then went to walmart for...

Super Tech FS prices have increased again

Ok, twisted my arm. I just went to Walmart and picked up two jugs for $20 cad each. Should get me through the year until the next round of Pennzoil rebates etc.

First Gen Mazda 3, which filter do you use/would choose?

Obviously YMMV but the FL-910S at my local Ford dealer is cheaper than anything else I can find locally, $6 and change. Hard to beat that. Otherwise, I'd be buying the Motomaster or Fram whenever they went on sale.

What Brand Of Conventional Oil Would You ONLY Use??

For the purpose of this question, if we're treating all the "synthetic blends" as conventional, I'd be using Motorcraft in both of my Ford engines. Good stuff and priced well. If we're sticking to pre-SP conventional oil, probably Supertech. Because it's cheap and it works.
  20. C

First store brand oil you used?

Canadian Tire's Motomaster as a top up oil. Supertech for a full oil change.
