Interesting Motor Trend article about EVs

Distributing electricity is easier, more efficient, and safer than delivering petroleum products. You can also generate electricity on-site if you're a homeowner with some sunlight. Can't exactly make your own gasoline.

So I've want to buy a $60K electric Kia...

That viewpoint doesn't really make sense. They were bad at internal combustion engines and this doesn't have one. They got rid of what they were bad at. It's like a pitcher scrapping a curveball because it always gets hit hard - addition by subtraction.

So I've want to buy a $60K electric Kia...

Are you sure about that? Compare the EV6 to any of its competitors. It doesn't look or perform more "budget" than any of them. It crushes the ID4 and arguably looks more expensive than both the ID4 and the awkwardly-proportioned Mach-E. Build quality is notably better than the Tesla Model Y...

So I've want to buy a $60K electric Kia...

    That sounds suspicious.

    BMW i4 M50 review

The wife and I test drove it a few months ago and hated it, honestly. It was certainly fast but the entire thing felt incomplete. The infotainment and climate controls were a huge step backwards. There's this weird idea that screens are better than buttons, when in reality, it just leads to way...

Interesting Motor Trend article about EVs

Well-to-wheels inefficiency is a thing for ICE, too. There's energy used to extract, refine, and distribute gasoline. Then you need to take into account thermal efficiency that, absolute best case, is still going to be under 50%. Then there are driveline losses which are higher than EVs because...

Electrek.co: GM recalls 140000 Chevy Bolt EVs due to risk of carpet catching fire.

Airbags use explosives, too, and that's worked out mostly well, other than the several million airbags Takata recalled.

2021 Honda Civic 1.4 Turbo Oil Recommendations

I'd use a cheaper 0W-20 (SuperTech or Kirkland stuff from Costco) and just do more frequent OCI. Oil dilution is a known issue on those motors and small displacement motors with turbos tend to be especially hard on oil. My Kia with a 1.6T is harder on oil than anything I've ever owned.

    KYB or OEM Toyota shocks?

I've been happy with the KYB I installed on all 4 corners on the Odyssey. With 195K miles, it was more than due. Was the furthest thing from a controlled experiment, though - I replaced original steel control arms with aluminum, new struts and shocks obv, and new wheels and tires, going from the...

    Long lasting snow tires

They might not be close to the top in performance but I've gotten 5 winters on multiple sets of General Altimax Arctic. I'm getting decent wear on the Sumitomo Ice Edge I've got on the minivan - expecting to retire the car before I go through the tires.

    DIY Friendly EV? Canoo Truck.

If it had a decent second row, I'd put a deposit down right now. I think it's insane that it's under 185" front to back.

    Energy Production in China

It'll come from coal initially and then get cleaner as the grid gets cleaner. ICE vehicles don't ever get cleaner as they age. What a tired "argument".

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Ordered two of these from RockAuto for my Kia's 1.6T and got totally different filters. One's the old style "Made in USA" with thinner walls and the other's a Korean one made on the Mann+Hummel line. The Korean one feels much more like the Hyundai-Kia OEM unit, which is honestly the heaviest...

Kia CV - 62 miles of range - charge in 4 minutes

You still have that with ICE, too. It's part of the industry. Bad airbags and bad battery packs are both dangerous. The tech will get safer and better; gas-powered cars have had a hundred years to evolve to their current state.

Kia CV - 62 miles of range - charge in 4 minutes

Any time I have to touch a gas pump nozzle handle, it's "dirty" because other people are touching it and nobody's sanitizing. Unless you live in Jersey or Oregon, any gas station's "dirty". Changing your route to include a station and having to stop at a station costs you time. If you can plug...

Kia CV - 62 miles of range - charge in 4 minutes

Sounds like a hybrid would work a lot better for you than a pure EV. You've gotta use the best tool for the job. For my daily 90-100mi commute, an EV would make perfect sense. I "waste" a ton of time getting gas, changing oil, running GDI cleaner, changing transmission fluid, etc. I also have a...

    CHP/ Combine Heat Power Unite

My building during grad school ran on a CHP unit with a solid oxide fuel cell running off natural gas. Seemed to work really well in that application though it was way larger than what you'd need for a standard (or even large) home.

Sumitomo Ice Edge - First Snow and Small Review

I've got these on my Odyssey. They've been fine in light and deep snow and were super cheap. They're also the loudest tires I've ever had over 60 MPH, and I've run plenty of different snow tires before.

    Gotta gas up..

Sure there is. It's miles of range added per hour of charge time.

Kia CV - 62 miles of range - charge in 4 minutes

Of course, you're not taking into consideration the time it takes to go to the gas station. Imagine if you had a "pump" in your driveway or garage.
