Toilet tank additives. from chlorine to Mr Bubbles

Chlorine based is best, but get a system that puts the tablets in a container in line with the tube that goes to the overfill tube. That way it won't eat any tank parts as it goes straight into the bowl after the flush, and does it work fhen.

    Iridium Plugs

You broke your first sentence promise, you mentioned "piston soak". Honestly, I think any iridium plug will do great. I think they are all thin wire. I took an OEM set out of my daughter's Chevy Malibu at 110,000 miles and they looked almost new!

Why do car companies recommend "Brand X" oil?

Why do car companies recommend "Brand X" oil?

I think it's completely marketing. Selecting the same oil specification should be all that is necessary. In fact, U.S. Law makes speciflying a specific manufacturers product illegal to maintain a warrenty. BTW, my Corvette recommends Mobil 1 oil.

How do you know when you need rebuilt calipers?

When the piston won't release, meaning when the brake stays on.

    Headlight protection film

Google it and you will find a lot of vendors. May be good for stones, although the plastic is tough. My way of thinking is any plastic will age in sun, and it's easy to get wax to fix it on OEM headlights every few years, so why bother? Whoa, I didn't see how old this post was!

    The SR-71 Sistership

This was an ill-fated reaction to the Gary Powers U2 shoot down. Not a good example of American Aviation ideas/developement. I too, like the SR.-71, seeing one in the National Air Space Museum was great! Not a small aircraft.

Does Toyota make the best automotive a/c?

freon refridgerator/cooling systems are one of the most reliable systems made. Look at refrigerators, rarely do they go bad! Same with house air conditioner/heat pump systems. Simple and reliable systems. Vibrations in car systems make leaks more common, but replacing coolant is relatively...

    "Engine Blew-up" Share your Stories

Worse story I heard here was, person went in for an oil change. They drained his transmission oil and put more oil in oil fill, without checking oil dipstick. Person drove out and both engine and transmission failed.

    Ridiculous cost of Temp Spare

They use these to save weight and get better gas mileage. You wouldn't believe what they do to get better mileage. Look at Ford using aluminum body panels on their new trucks!

    Sudden oil darkening. Why?

My cars with iron blocks and aluminum heads tended to turn oil black. My Corvette with aluminum block and heads keeps the oil golden the entire OCI.

    Turn signals

I agree, I always signal, even lane changes My 2014 impala with lane change alarm, goes off if I don't use my signals. Maybe this new technology will help these people, but I doubt it!

    Overfill Corvette if racing?!

Most dry sumps still have a very shallow "wet sump" to collect oil and return to reservoir, as several people have noted. In Corvettes it is about a 2 quart oil pan.

Any better way to clean house floor.

Swifter Wet Jet and disposable pads for tile and vinyl. Bona spray dispenser and washable cloth pads for wood. Both work great!

    Overfill Corvette if racing?!

The LT4 is 9.8 quarts with dry sump. You can buy a 638 HP version of this engine for about $21,229 here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-19244099?seuid=srese1&gclid=CImHj-G10sMCFVAvgQodAi8Azg The LT1 is 7 quarts. Both are 2015 Corvette engines.

    Spare tire changing

I was a Cub and Boy Scout Leader. I once used my car to let the scouts learn how to change a tire. My Chevy Corsica must have had the spare tire mount severly over torqued on at the factory. I needed a breaker bar and a hammer to loosen it! I felt fortunate that I discovered this in my garage...
