GC - Good replacement for M1 0W-40 in Nissan GT-R?

What about all the talk about it shearing down to a 30 weight and it ruining BMW 335 engines?? I have an MB E320 that specifies M1 0W40 and up to 10K OCI and have been slightly concerned about all the talk about shearing and high metal during the Blackstone tests.

    VW dealership brainless monkeys

if you lose 5 quarts of oil in 40 miles your rear bumpers and trunk lids will be coated with oil. And you will probably see, smell smoke. Also the engine compartment will be a mess

Gold standard for maintaining a transmission

I just read about tightening the kick down cable that will help improve tranny life. By tightening the kick down cable one will get firmer shifts which means less clutch wear etc etc Kind of makes sense since the Avalon is probably tuned for smooth shifts. I do not mind somewhat firmer shifts...

Gold standard for maintaining a transmission

I have read your post about your transmission. BTW do you know if the ATF and the differential share the same fluid? Meaning that as long as I keep renewing the ATF by 2 quarts I am also improving the fluid in the differential. So far car has been a reliable daily runner. Engine should easily...

Gold standard for maintaining a transmission

So far tranny seems ok and I just want it to last to 200K M1 ATF is $6 per quart so it is $12 per 5K miles or $120.00 for 50K of driving. Pretty in expensive

Gold standard for maintaining a transmission

I bought the car at an auction at 98K miles. After that I did all in all about 4 drain and refill. Yes it is really easy to do a D&R but then you need to climb under the car. Looking for a really easy solution like sucking out the ATF. Perhaps I might do a Drain and refill every other 5K and...

Gold standard for maintaining a transmission

OK I may have asked this question before. I have a 97 Avalon with an A541E and 150K. Engine runs very well (uses no oil and no smoke) and the rest of the car is in good shape. I hope to use this car to 200K or more. My main concern is the transmission. Here is my plan: Given the mileage on...

How to keep an auto transmission running forever

I have a 97 Toyota Avalon with 150K miles. Car is a daily driver with 70/30 city/hwy and does about 40 miles a day. I am looking for real world tips to make the transmission last a long time. By real world I mean maybe - "when you want to drive the car hard, drive gently for the first 10...

$50 billion bailout for the struggling big 3???

Yes big 3 have their legacy cost, their UAWs but the very basic problem is no one wants to buy their cars!! Just go look at the popular segments. Compacts and sub compacts - dominated by Japs Midsize - Camry and Accord (where is Big 3 - Taurus was big in this segment but that was 10 years ago...

Hoe to remove fine paint dots on windshield

Thanks for the tips. I think I will go with acetone on a cloth for a start followed by razor. BTW what is the best glass cleaner out there. Windex comes to mind but I read in another forum about one that comes in a aerosol can.

Hoe to remove fine paint dots on windshield

Someone must have been doing some painting where I parked and my car is filled with lots of very tiny paint dots. But what bothers me is the paint dots on my windshield. They are about the size of a period - just a small dot but they bother me when I drive. What is the best way to remove from...

    Toyota T-IV = Dexron III ?

My experience is NO. I have a Lexus LS 400 that requires Type IV. Former owner put in Dexron III (regular drain and refill changes) and there was a shudder when tranny locks up into overdrive. The shudder feels that running over road dots. I put in 2 quarts of Type IV (drain and refill) and the...

OK To Use 85W90 in Toy Avalon Front Diff

I was under impression that diff and tranny share the same ATF fluid. So adding 85w90 might affect your tranny

    Changing ATF frequently - OK?

The mechanic that I use for larger jobs (strut mounts/steering rack) is Toyota ASE and he is one of those that believe in old fluid helping the transmission. He recommends 30K drain and top up (which is only 2 quarts). Yes it sounds extreme but it is really easy to do on my part.

    Changing ATF frequently - OK?

    M1 ATF $6 x 2 = $12 of ATF every 4K 120K miles = 30 changes x $12 = $360 Sounds ok to me in terms of costs.

    Changing ATF frequently - OK?

I have a 97 Toyota Avalon. Will it harm my tranny if I drain 2 quarts and put in 2 new quarts of ATF every 4K? If we believe in the "fresh ATF is good" theory then this should be ok. I do my oil change every 4K and the the ATF drain plug is just 2 feet away and really easy to get to. Also ATF...

Auto Rx treatment for 2001 Mercedes E320

The Mercedes requires use of Mobil 1 0W-40 which is one of the few oils that meet the MB 229.5 standard. I have decided to do an AutoRx treatment and will do the prescribed procedure (even though this means dumping 8 quarts of recently changed M1 0W-40 - apparently this M1 oil is a grp 4 oil...
