Just came in from the garage with an outside temp of -35C. Gave a shake to bottles of GC 0W-30 and Mobil 1 5W-30. Just checked the long range weather forcast for northern Alberta and it is forecast to be -45 degrees by mid next week. This will be an excellent test of the GC's cranking ability in the 1.8T. Also got some mobil 1 5W-30 in the Chev van. BTW, I think I'll idle the engine for a couple of minutes...

Yep, at my local Mal-Wart today and amongst the 4L. containers of Mobil 1 were a couple of new stock containers of the 4.4L. size. Interesting enough they were labeled as "new size" -- just maybe this is now going to be the standard size from here on out. All containers were the same $28.xx price.

Wal-mart in Canada sells a synthetic oil under their formula 2000 house brand name. Does anyone know anything about its quality, who makes it for them, etc. I have specific interest in using their 0W-30 grade year-round in a chipped VW 1.8T.
