Exceptionally clean oil after usual OCI

This is due to the use of E85, if I remember right, you opened a thread a few months ago about the use of E85 right? Usually here in Brazil in vehicles using E100 the oil color remains almost the same as it was when new. Much much less carbon on ethanol, much less carbon to be in oil, that is...

What's the truth about ethanol and OCIs?

You can invite all skeptical people in Europe to come to Brazil to see a BUNCH of ethanol cars, some with more than 25 years that stills running great. I'll left to LeoStrop to tell you his experience using HDEO oils in his E100 cars but it isn't something necessary to run E100. All oil bottles...

What's the truth about ethanol and OCIs?

The only thing I saw all these years that was corroded a little bit faster when compared to a similar gas engine was the spark plugs. But that was in a carburated engine. 5 years ago me and a friend both installed an Iridium set of NGK spark plugs both in very similar cars. My car have a VW 2...

What's the truth about ethanol and OCIs?

You don't have to worry about it at all, even if the car isn't E100 or flex fuel from factory, if the EFI system is well adjusted to run E100 or E85 and by that I mean running the proper air/fuel ratio for ethanol you will be just fine. That is very very common here in Brazil specially in...

    obsolete oil grades

I've been using Elf 10w40 (owners manual recommended) in my 5 cylinder Fiat Marea for two years, by far the best oil I've used in this car since i bought it. Way better than any 15w40 I've used.

    Engine Cleanliness

Is in any way different additive packages from different oil companies related to varnish? This came out discussing varnish with some friends today and one told me that in a Petrobras oil lecture someone from the company came out with this. That changing from one brand to another, could be a...

Super short trips, E85 and OCI

I agree with LeoStrop. Some time warming up the engine before leaving may do good to the engine when short tripping specially running E85. Some Early 90s Brazilian E100 cars without warming up in cold ambient temperatures couldn't even get out of the driveway properly.

    Oil Change Interval

I have extended my OCIs because of Bitog too. I don't daily drive, as a flight attendant i barely run 3000 kilometers a year in all of my cars. Now, using semi syn oils I do the oil change every year or every year and a half sometimes. Except in my Fiat Marea Turbo that runs with very rich...

    Is semi-synthetic 10W-40 still a thing?

I was very used to run Valvoline Durablend 10w40 in my Fiat Marea, very good oil but since valvoline left Brazil I'm using Elf 10w40 even better oil. There are other brands making 10w40 as well such as Shell, Petronas, Petrobras, etc.

12 month Interval on oil ?

I think with really light use, no short trips, you can keep the oil for a year for sure. I have 4 90s cars all of them run about 2500 kilometers a year, I change the oil once a year in all of them. But I avoid short trips. I've been making this for years, even with conventional oil, no varnishes...

    Death of Conventional

The difference in price between conventional and synthetics in third world countries like mine isn't that small, that also makes some careless car owners use conventional where synthetics are required and use wrong viscosity grades too. Only conventional 15w40 and 20w50 are really cheap here...

High oil temp while towing: need more PAO/Ester, or more viscosity?

    Oil questions, old Mercedes engine

If the engine isn't burning oil, I'd stick with any 10w40 syn blend with the best API possible, even better if you find one with MB approval. I think anything above that is a overkill.

Switch to 10w40 in higher temps?

Oil for my old 5.0l Ford Explorer that’s “burning” oil?

I'd start with some 5w40 HM oil. If you see no results, start using thicker grades. But, some day using thicker oils will no longer solve your problems.

Switch to 10w40 in higher temps?

I'd use a thicker oil only when the engine present any issue related to oil burn. My 5 cylinder Fiat turbo engine calls for 10w40 ou 15w40 but I am using a 15w50, but the engine have factory 200hp and now have 330hp. Otherwise for sure I would be using the owners manual recommended oil.

    From golden to dark immediately!?

In the US dealership oil change isn't necessary to keep manufacturer warranty? Here in Brazil you can only keep the manufacturer warranty if you do the oil change and other parts check at the dealership.

    From golden to dark immediately!?

They didn't change it. Period. Go back to the dealership with the UoA, and if I was you I'd write to Toyota telling your story. This is unacceptable, if you weren't a car guy this engine would probably break down.

Am i wasting perfectly good oil ?

Oh, o forgot something, the fuel pump have to be prepared to pump ethanol.
