Thanks for your reply. I never have to top off between changes so I guess it’s doing ok 😊

Thankyou :) this engine is definitely one of those.

    15yrs of 5000km (3100mi) oil changes

I guess my observations are based on comparisons of the internals of the same engine type. Over here they are very common, and every one I’ve seen the internals of, has varnish of some sort, usually a much darker colour than this. As I mentioned earlier, they are known to run hot in the top...

Out of curiosity, would you be concerned if this was your engine?

    15yrs of 5000km (3100mi) oil changes

This is an interference engine but it runs a belt. It’s not a notorious sludger as far as I’m aware. I know of examples that have gone 300k+ miles.

Late 70’s I would guess, so mid 60’s when he bought it

    15yrs of 5000km (3100mi) oil changes

I like the wide viscosity range. 10w-50 is in the owners manual, as is 5w-30. I don’t see the issue with 5w-50.

    15yrs of 5000km (3100mi) oil changes

I don’t think it’s that bad for a 19yr old car. Certainly no heavy red/brown rubbish. These are known to run hot in the top end which doesn’t help

    15yrs of 5000km (3100mi) oil changes

After purchasing my 2004 Mitsubishi Verada (Diamante) off the second owner last year, I decided to do the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals. The car has 207000km (128000mi) and has the 6g74 engine He was an older man who had owned it for 15yrs, and did oil changes religiously every...

2004 Mitsubishi Verada (Diamante) 203000kms UOA Penrite 5w-30

Thankyou both so much for your input :) I normally do a 5k interval, so will be interested to see how the next one looks. I’ve got 5w40 in there at the moment. I’m only chopping and changing weights at the moment as I’ve only just started doing UOA’s and would like to see which one seems to be...

2004 Mitsubishi Verada (Diamante) 203000kms UOA Penrite 5w-30

Hi all, Couple of UOA’s from Australia. The latest one was a very short interval due to the fuel % in the first one. This was later determined (by me) to be caused by the engine flush I mistakenly used prior to the first sample. No TBN on either sample unfortunately. Oil used -...

Derale filter relocation kit with luber finer.

I just installed a derale transmission filter kit down here in Australia. The kit came with a luber finer PH253 spin on. Now, we don’t get that brand here and it appears it was made in the USA. Just wondering what the general consensus is amongst you guys? Is it worth keeping on, or should I...

Had a visitor in my front yard today..

No, those meats are definitely more mainstream, But kangaroo has been on the market for a number of years now and it's slowly but surely gaining popularity. It's a much more sustainable meat as well, given the large population. It's commonly available in supermarkets and seems to sell quite well

Beautiful, it's a very lean meat so hot and fast is the way to cook it. It's a bit gamey but not too much. You can buy it in the supermarket as fillets or even kanga bangas (sausages)!
