    First Oil Filter Brand?

Just curious, what was the first oil filter brand that you can remember using/buying? Mine would probably be a Quaker State, back when that was K-Mart's house brand and was made by Fram. Later they got "K-Mart" branded filters that were made by Champion. They were all white with the K-Mart logo.

Which brake pad: Wearever or Duralast?

I'm getting the cheapest possible brakes I can get for an old beater. I usually run Bendix in my cars but I'm not putting that kind of money into this one. It's come down between the Advance Wearever and AZ Duralast. Anyone know who their manufacturer is or which one would be the better pad?

    Collinite 476s vs. 915

Waiting for my Harbor Freight to get some more 476s in, but they have the Marque D' Elegance 915 there. From what I understand, the 915 doesn't last as long as the 476, but nobody can tell me what it looks like compared to the 476. I prefer a deeper shine and glow over durability, so how does...

    Entek smokeless motor oil?

Never heard of it. Anyone here know anything about it? http://fayetteville.craigslist.org/pts/922307794.html They have a website that claims it's a synthetic. Looks fly-by-nightish to me.

    Seeking opinions on Maine

I was originally going to pm eljefino with this, but I figured it'd be nice to hear from all past and present Mainers. My GF may have a possible job offer in Maine (don't know where yet). I'm looking for insight on what it's like to live there. COst of living high? Massive unemployment? etc.

    Paint questions

OK, here's what I did: Bought a new beater Buick minus a front pass. side fender. Picked up a decent one at the junkyard, took it down to bare metal. Primered it and wet sanded the primer down smooth. I picked up the correct Dupli-color aerosol spray can at AZ. The only thing is I've never...

Applying wax by hand, no buffer or pad

Has anybody ever tried this? I've read many times that the best way to apply pure carnauba wax is with your bare hands. I tried it years back and didn't notice much of a difference. I still use a pad to put it on. I came across this vid on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkmZveqyU5E...

And you thought that Lancer thread was funny...

This to me is even crazier than the other one: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126012

So, what's everyone using now in place of Dex III?

My 4l60E's have responded well in the past to Pennzoil YB, Castrol, Valvoline and Supertech Dex III's. They are very picky when it comes to anything else I've tried in them. So realizing that one day it will be impossible to find any fully DEX III spec'd fluid (indeed the only ones I can find...

    Old Prestone ad

I just came across this and figured I'd share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd8jUPuqZ60 "I'm **** Butkus, and plugging holes is my business." Notice Prestone no longer claims to "plug holes" anymore. Maybe too many people wrote Union Carbide for their money back.

Do you know anyone that does this?

When I was growing up I used to know of several people that did this procedure during an oil change: Once you've got the drain bolt off and the filter off take a quart of fresh oil and pour it into the crankcase to let it drain right back out to the pan. Supposed to "flush" the old oil out. I...

    Engine or Motor?

On another thread this topic has sort of come up and I'm curious, what do you call it? Engine or Motor? I use the two interchangably.

The blonde in the old Chevy

This is a reaaaaaaaal old one, forgive me if its already been posted. A blonde pulls up into Jiffy Lube with an old beater Chevy that sounds like it's about to die. The mechanic has her ull up and asks her what's wrong with it. She says that it's been running real rough and sometimes it will...

    UOA Lab recommendation?

I've been using a local lab for oil analysis for the last five years or so, and lately I think that either their work is suspect or maybe they've been mixing up samples, IDK. But anyway I'm looking into getting an analysis done from one of the site sponsors here, and I've heard good things about...

    Wal-Mart 1.00 Fram filters

I stopped into my local Wal-Mart today just checking over the prices on things and on the clearance rack was a big box of assorted orange Fram Filters without any packaging. They were all brand new but didn't have any pricing or barcodes or anything. They were also just thrown randomly in this...

    Good polish or compund?

I recently picked up an SC2 Saturn. The paint is in really good shape, a dark green color. However the rear spoiler has three dime sized oxidation marks where the clear coat is gone. The underlying paint is still fresh but I was looking for some sort of polish or compound that I could hand buff...

Tom Cruise = Secret Oil Junkie?

I was reading that for Tom Cruises latest "War of the Worlds" he had a lot of input decorating the set of his home, he picked a lot of the props in the kitchen area. What you see in the movie is a cluttered kitchen complete wth a 302 engine, a case of Pennzoil 10w30, and an STP oil filter box...

    Type F or Mercon?

I've got a 1982 C4 AT, I can't remember when Ford changed the specs on this. Was it Type F factory filled or Mercon?

    Dollar General

First time I've been in DG in a while, went to the Automotive aisle. Saw a couple of interesting things. First off, the house brand Warren/Unilube they have is now SH rated. Before all they had was the "Approved for gasoline engines" donut on the back. Wasn't there a law passed a while back...

    gasping for air- sick 3.1

Quick question. My 96 Buick with 3.1 has caught a cold I think. The other day I went to start it and after it ran a few seconds the idle revved way high, then down low and felt like it was about to die, like it was gasping for air. Then it caught itself and revved high again, then low then glur...
