" Some Group III base oils outperform POA based Group IV"

So are you saying that, assuming reasonable oil change intervals, you see group III based oils performing better than PAO based oils? ie comparing a GIII vs PAO based oil both at 5,000 miles, you see better results with the group III oil?

    “Entry level synthetic”

I think people use "entry level" synthetic as a way to define store-brand synthetics and the cheapest option available from a manufacturer (with some caveats). Pennzoil Synthetic black label is the "most basic" "synthetic" that Shell offers in that line, it says Synthetic and meets API SP and...

Never thought I'd find myself on an oil forum, but here goes....

The Mercedes OLM is not an "intelligent" one. It counts down 10000 miles or 365 days. Some of the late 2000s even did 13000 miles/365. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Mobil produces the Mercedes oil for the US. Pentosin makes a lot of the other OEM fluid. Mercedes just uses numbers for any...

Never thought I'd find myself on an oil forum, but here goes....

Congratulations on your GLC! Unsure why exactly they have you select what approval of oil you use. Not sure if it changes anything. Other than that, I'd recommend using an oil with the approvals of 229.51 or 229.52 (.51 is same as .52 but tests for better fuel economy when using the oil)...

    Extended Drain Oils

He means because the beetles didn't have an engine oil filter. They do have a screen but the holes are large enough and won't really stop any particles.

Is your Civic extremely short tripped? I have a 20 Civic Sport 2.0L, and when I was doing longer highway miles, the 15% came on a little past 10,000 miles. I do shorter highway trips now (8 miles to and from work, mostly highway) and it still goes down 10% about every 900-1k miles.

Mercedes CLA 250 at 100k miles; unknown oil unknown miles

If you're asking about the common issue of the crankcase vent valve actuator blocked, that is the most common issue on this engine. Not cheap to fix and MB only sells it as an assembly which is quite a lot of work to replace/labor intensive. Feel free to PM.

Mercedes CLA 250 at 100k miles; unknown oil unknown miles

At the dealer, we see the M270/M274 engines getting high miles on bulk 229.5 oil w/ the typical 10k/1 year recommended OCI. If they have issues, seems to be at lower miles and once you get "up there", the engines just keep kicking along.

Any reason I can't use 5W30 short term for engine calling for 0W20?

Absolutely no issue with using it, even for a long period of time (if you want to). It's a 22 year old engine, and would've probably allowed a thicker oil in the manual if it wasn't a US owner's manual. I know this is a different manufacturer, but the new KIA K5 with the 1.6L specs 0W-20 on the...
