    2007 GM L92 6.2 Escalade Recommendations

Thanks both for the thoughts. Can I ask - what is an OCI filter? I'm open to trying the previous type of filter, but I can't quite see how the new (supposedly better) filter is causing more piston slap. I should clarify a bit more that it's definitely a piston slap sound. There's never any...

    2007 GM L92 6.2 Escalade Recommendations

Thanks both! I'd wondered about Mobil1, as I'm pretty sure it's hard to go wrong. I normally get on really well with Valvoline, just not this particular 5W30. I've never really used additives or flushes before, but will read up on them some more. I did use a different filter - it previously had...

    2007 GM L92 6.2 Escalade Recommendations

I've recently bought a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2 L92 V8. It only has around 60,000 miles and runs very quietly, but since changing the oil to Valvoline SynPower 5W30 I'm conscious that it has some piston slap until it's warmed up. I'd totally forgotten this, but I actually moved away...

Jeep Control Arms - Which Brand?

Thank you all for the help with this, sorry it's taken me a couple of days to respond. There are a few reasons that I'm replacing the control arms in the first place. My XJ has had new ball joints U-joints, track bar, tie rods and tie rod ends. The brakes are new. The alignment is good...

Jeep Control Arms - Which Brand?

Thanks both for the answers. dlundblad, yeah it is possible to replace just the bushings but I've been told by several people that there's no guarantee that the control arm won't get destroyed in the process. I get all this kind of work done by an ex-Jeep dealer tech and he said to just buy...

Jeep Control Arms - Which Brand?

Two of our Jeeps ('98 XJ Cherokee and '97 ZJ Grand Cherokee) are in need of replacement control arms, but I'm having a hard time finding anything decent to replace them with. The Jeep forums all seem to suggest either Crown (which I've had bad experiences with) or modified, non-stock style ones...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks for the advice guys. On the topic of suitable oil type: My engine builder usually builds drag racing engines for a living. He specifically told me that he tightened up the clearances vs. what he would normally do for a racing engine, as this is in no way meant for racing. He explained...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks, I'll look into that Fram. For the next OCI I've got my hands on a Made in USA K&N HP-2007. They're easy to find over here and after watching loads of tear down videos, I've been pleased with the build quality. I've heard mixed reports on them but I liked what I saw. I'll report back...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks, I'll look up that Man filter. Most filters over here I order from RockAuto, so I will mostly stick to what I can get on there. All the ones I've found so far I have listed in the first post in this thread.

    Jeep JKU filter?

I've had great luck with Mopar filters in the past. I've primarily used them on two of ours Jeeps with the 4.0 for the last 60,000 miles (each), and my Grand Wagoneer is now using a Mopar filter after I had some trouble with dry startups using Wix.

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I thought you might be interested in my progress. After getting the oil pressure gauge working properly I used the Jeep as normal for a couple of days. I noticed that the engine noise I was hearing coincided with a small delay in oil pressure building at...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks everyone, this has all been really helpful. The Wagoneer sure can be expensive over here, but it runs on propane which is half the cost. We also have a '74 Ford F100 with a 390 running on straight gas - that thing rarely sees better than 10mpg which really does sting! The filter is...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

I have to say, I had had similar thoughts. I'll do some research on a suitable thinner oil, then once I've got a good idea of what the oil pressure is doing I'll perhaps make the change. With a new rebuild, what kind of oil should I be looking at? I'm guessing I want to keep to regular...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

I will do tomorrow! It's going back to the builder for a couple of issues to be sorted and we'll be getting a pressure gauge hooked up too. I will of course be mentioning the dry startup thing to him, but having experienced this problem in the past I'm really having my doubts about the oil...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Thanks, that was one of the filters I was leaning towards. I'm running Valvoline VR-1 20W50 on the recommendation of my engine rebuilder. The dry startups don't seem to be linked to temperature. They can happen randomly any time after it's been sat for ~45+ minutes. The engine is actually a new...

    Oil drainback/dry startup issues

Hi everyone, This is my first post here but I've been casually browsing for some time. I have a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with an AMC 360 V8 that intermittently seems to suffer oil drain back issues. Occasionally when starting (1 in 5 starts maybe) it will thump a couple of times before the oil...
