Belt(?) squeal under load but only when warm

It turned out to be the tensioner pulley bearings. The spring in the tensioner was also creaking a bit. Thankfully, the crank, alternator and water pump pulleys are still good. I replaced the tensioner, the idler pulley and the serpentine belt (which had 60k miles on it anyway). Things are...

Going over 12 months on OCI

It really depends on the nature of those occasional drives. Besides the length of the drives and getting the engine to temperature, start-stop traffic is pretty hard on oil so I wouldn't go more than a couple of months over if the car is subject to a lot of that.

Belt(?) squeal under load but only when warm

As per title - after engine is thoroughly warm from a long drive of over 30 minutes I get a squeal that sounds like belt squeal, but while it is very high pitched, it is not loud.. but well concealed by the otherwise normal engine noise. It's subtle enough I thought it was tinnitus messing with...

    Removing silicone spray overspray/residue

Thanks for all your suggestions! I got the affected parts of the interior to become far less slick, and more of a 'squeaky clean', first with degreaser, then dish soap, then wet paper towels, dry paper towels, and gentle but persistent rubbing with a microfiber towel. I know it won't be 100%...

    Removing silicone spray overspray/residue

That's what my intuition told me as well, but as someone relatively inexperienced with working with silicone lube, I needed the reassurance from someone who knows better that I wouldn't inadvertently spread the stuff everywhere with the rag, and turn a 15 minute DIY cleaning job into a day at a...

    Removing silicone spray overspray/residue

As per title: used silicone spray to remedy chafing power windows, was mostly successful at keeping the bulk of the spray confined to the window tracks, but as with any aerosol coming out of a pressurised can, some of it got into the air and a number of small droplets got onto the seat bolsters...

Minor water ingress into fresh air vent in driving rain

As per title. By minor I mean on the order of a few tablespoons at most, coming from under the dash where the AC ducts are. Drip, drip, done. Carpets not soaked, no flooding. Checked usual suspects: cowl drains (scuttle drains) are clear windshield seal (original, never replaced) passes the...

Evaporative coolant loss from unpressurised overflow tank?

Thanks for the replies. I have learnt something new today. My previous ride (a GM product) had a pressurised overflow tank which did not require me to add a single drop of coolant or water for five years. In the sixth, the liquid level dropped maybe half an inch and I noticed that just before...

Evaporative coolant loss from unpressurised overflow tank?

So my overflow tank is one of those unpressurised designs, with a simple snap-on plastic cap that appears fairly watertight. It is exactly this one. I've been monitoring the cold coolant levels weekly, and noticed that over two months or so, the level would drop about 1cm or so, corresponding...

Does Liqui Moly Motor Oil Saver break down RTV Sealant?

Thanks for all the reassuring replies. I wrote to LM and they also assured it would not be a problem. Went ahead and put it in my engine and it has been without problems so far. Hope it works its magic for the seal!

Does Liqui Moly Motor Oil Saver break down RTV Sealant?

As above. I'm going to be using a smaller-than-recommended dose (maybe 8-12oz or so in 4qts oil) to see if a tiny rear main seep will be gone by my next oil change. However I'm also aware that there are a bunch of parts of my engine, such as the oil pan, that don't have a gasket - they came with...
