DIY Injector cleaning - What cleaner?

To turboTravis. I don't think I've seen an injector issue on a car/truck in 20 years working in the industry, but your injector? My lord! Wow that's bad. Now having said..."I haven't seen an insect problem". I owned a 2018 Silverado for two years, and it began developing a random misfire while...

My last two cars were direct injection

My last vehicles (2018 Silverado and 2007 Lexus LS460) were both direct injected. Both consumed oil; with the Lexus it took a while...really started consuming oil after 140,000 miles. With the Silverado, it was right away...usually a quart to a quart and a half between 5,000 mile intervals...

    Time to Dump or Repair?

Like others have said, get a subframe at a junkyard and have an independent put it in. I saw one being installed on a Mazda SUV (similar year) last year...it must be a Mazda thing (rear subframe). But it went in fairly easily and wasn't all that big of a deal. 140,000 miles isn't all that...

can a family of 4 use 34k gallons

Same thing happened to me this time last year...got a call from the water company, your home is using 3 times the usual amount, you may a leak. It is my rental property. Called. Asked if they were filling a blowup pool or something. Nope. Any leaks? Nope. Went over to the house, the toilet had...

    Another Civic Down

You keep your head up and you'll get through this mess. Glad everyone is ok. Although I'm not great at taking my own advice, just remember that none of "this" really matters...all the BS curveballs life loves to throw at us. The best medicine and the best revenge is not to care or let it bother...

People driving less / motor oil prices?

I don't motor oil prices follow gas prices all that closely (want to say I've read that in the last, as this question has been asked before). And just like before...nope, oil prices did NOT drop with fuel prices. From what I've seen oil prices have been pretty stable and low the past few...

2015 Corolla with 7k miles has “soft brakes”

I'll throw my hat into the ring... No they won't cover it. To diagnose if it's the master cylinder, try "pumping" the brakes when it feels soggy while driving. There are seals in the master cylinder that will get distorted, causing pedal to drop and when you pump the brakes it sometimes...

Gentleman i used to do oil changes for passed on. Wife gave me his MC SB jugs

Right now the Amsoil crowd is thinking...see, if he just used Amsoil he'd still be alive right now.

    Chipmunks - Damit.

If you know where their nest is, wait till night and run an exhaust hose right into the nest. They actually sell exhaust hoses for this. I have chipmunk problem this year too, but I haven't brought myself to do anything about it...getting close though.

    Used Brake Calipers

Actually I disagree with most of the people on this thread. Rebuilt calipers can be pretty poor in quality and can easily end up seizing on you a year or two down the road. Upon close inspection of these things you'll notice some scratches and knicks on surfaces that just shouldn't be there...

    First Oil Change

Well, I too changed my oil out at 1,000 miles on my first change. And as soon as I did that someone told me...oh, you should have left it in there until 3,000 miles. You want the stuff they put in the oil at the factory to embed into the cam lobes. They put a ton of moly in there on the factory...

    2016 Avalon

Was in need of a car/truck/suv. Found a 2016 Avalon XLE with 50,000 miles for $15,000. Really didn't "want" an Avalon...had my eye on a few things...Lexus GS350, Lexus ES350...a few SUV's (Cherokee, Explorer). I ended up buying the Avalon. Didn't want to, but when I drove it, it kind of blew...

Can a 2005 Volvo go 300K Miles easily?

Interesting, I really thought I'd come into this thread and not believe, but I leave a believer. For a car to last like that, relatively rust free in New England, is quite a testament to a great vehicle. Few cars survive New England winters unscathed...BMW comes to mind, very rarely do I see...

    2010-2013 Acura MDX

Looking for a used SUV for the wife, I'm seeing a lot of 2012 MDX's in the $10,000-$13,000 range. Just found one with 56,000 miles for 13k....pretty loaded. Anyone own one of these things? I figure it's a Honda so it's probably pretty reliable, however did a quick google search and oil...

    Rental car maintenance?

I have heard that places keep up with their basic maintenance, but buying a rental can be hit or miss. On one hand most people that drive a rental car are responsible and even careful, on the other there is always that 10% that feel they need to beat the ever living tar out of it to get there...
