Neglected 183k Mile BMW N51 (pic)

I'll definitely keep an eye on the filter. I'm worried about making it worse since it's so crudded up in there. Rubs off easily on a shop towel, so it's likely to become a mess in any solvent pretty quickly. Sticker indicates that they'd been using Kendall oil, probably 15k intervals. It runs...

Neglected 183k Mile BMW N51 (pic)

Bought this from a salvage company and the history indicates that it was donated to charity; I can only assume due to the variety of issues that I've mostly addressed. Any suggestions regarding cleaning this up? BG EPR? Auto-RX? Thanks in advance.

Historical PP Spec Sheets (5w-30 HTHS of 3.7?!)

http://web.archive.org/web/2005101704090...ticMotorOil.pdf - August 2005, maybe when it was still EOP? http://web.archive.org/web/2006050922141...ticMotorOil.pdf - looks the same as August 2005, date changed to March 2006 http://web.archive.org/web/2006090709391...ticMotorOil.pdf - July 2006...

Why did PP move away from EOP?

This may have been answered a long time ago, but a search didn't turn up anything. I have a stash of PP 5w-30 made before the date listed by Johnny as the switch point from EOP to Grp III (XHVI?). Were there seal or additive solubility issues with the EOP that caused the switch? Or was it that...

    Oversized for VQ35DE filters

I'd recommend the Wix 51356. Beta 2/20 of 6/19 is the best that I've seen from Wix (kudos to them for publishing that data, BTW) and much better than the 15/22 for the smaller 51365. Plus, the bypass is in the base and is set at the OEM recommended pressure.

GC good to go in my 5.0L Cobra?

The number of UOAs is more than "a few", and how does the fact that they are posted on the internet invalidate data gathered by numerous unbiased third parties? Their opinion does not trump hard numbers, which is exactly what we have here. GC 0w-30 is thicker at startup than most 5w-xxs, so how...

    GC and rear main seal.....

GC is thicker than most 5w-30 oils at room temperature, so how is it going to leak more? You seem biased against the number 0 even though it's nothing more than an arbitrary designation.

GC good to go in my 5.0L Cobra?

I guess all the sterling 0w-30 UOAs on this site must be invalid compared to the knowledge of a few "internal engine power cylinder system designers"? How do you know they aren't just spouting what the guys who originally trained them believed? Engineers are not immune to ignorance or bias, even...
